If based on your post, why not use a 5W-50 or 10W-60? Won't it extend the change interval to a longer period?

This is possible if you can find these grades easily.  However note what I wrote earlier:  "The other oil 5W-40 is thicker and hence less energy efficient."  Not only would your FC get worse, the power from your engine will also suffer because energy is lost pushing against the thicker oil.

Thanks @ER-3682! The common problem in side mirror is due to the motor/gear? any idea how they gonna fix that?

For the weird sound, not sure whether it is due to starter because it happen only on the first engine start after car unlock. there is no such sound on subsequent engine starts as long as you dont lock and unlock your car.

I've scheduled a check-up, just have to wait for a while. Not much driving nowadays too. 🙂

The side mirror issue seems to be pretty common for Mazda cars. They'll get it fixed under warranty by changing the internal parts.

The mechanical sound you hear when you start the car should be the steering lock being released. The steering lock engages when you stop the engine and open the door. Releases when you start the engine cause it's push start unlike old steering lock mechanism. However it does sound weird on your video. Definitely get them to check it once possible

But how is it possible to increase the change interval when using thicker multi-viscosity engine oil?

As to attain multi-viscosity is using Viscosity modifier additives;  the wider the range, it is difficult to maintain its grade after subjected to the shearing forces, thermal and oxidation.

https://www.infineuminsight.com/media/1813/2-viscosity-modifiers-na.pdf

https://www.oronite.com/products-technology/viscosity-modifiers/default.aspx

After the additives in oil has been wore out, it will no longer be effective in engine protection. Which is lubricating and cleaning.

In fact, I think if the intention is to extent change intervals. It is better to look out for recommended grade of engine oil by vehicle manufacturer, and engine oil with high HTHS value.

My M6 reaching 3 years. Had the same problem. Brought it to the workshop. Both side mirrors changed FOC since still under warranty.

Can also consider upgrading to the Apple Carplay and Android Auto if your model permits. Paid $600 for the upgrade using the vouchers that came with the car, plays music and Google Assistant - very useful for voice command search.

Hi sdf,

You will see more Jap car manufacturers on the same, usa retailers, worldwide airlines, casinos etc. and perhaps lesser banks also.

Hold on tight for the aftermath of this covid19 since it seems you are expecting biz as usual ...

Cheers.

this so call "medical financial " holocaust may tip the marginalise players and those who were lacking in compliance and financial discipline.

On the medical front, its an unfortunate event that the global front is experiencing.

At least its not like a more gruesome Ebola  but its a wake up call to relook how we look at a next outbreak.

Should we weigh the financial burden and perform a news containment to avoid wide spread panic or should we put in place like a fire alarm drill in years to come with a revamp of what is consider a pandemic or epidemic .

May not be real, but the fact that you are prepared may put everyone in a better state of mind.

Hi sdf,

SIA also marginalised, lack competency and financial disciple ? All affected bro and just hope you and me will not be in the long road ahead.

Many companies including mine have BCP plans and procedures but all struggling cos no sense to spend 90% of your means for such contingencies never seen before in recent times.

No, I do not have any answer but will also not offer any simplistic view and comments to businesses and organisation already run by brilliant individuals that put me to shame.

Cheers.

Most companies treat risk and issues as taboo subjects.

Even it security is something to be provided. But just don’t spend too much on it as it’s a burdensome cost.

cost is an evil and profitable gains is what’s going n the KPI n measurable.

so when problems arises ?

well when it happens than we discuss further as probably won’t even be on the senior watch. By then it’s someone’s else’s baby.

so we continue on the path of least destruction and continue to work on things that makes sense.

as an example, base on hindsight 2020 , sure, moral compass was lacking in the subprime years.

even in today context, WHO was against taking measure on wording it as a pandemic until it really was a pandemic, that was too late.

so yes, I can agree with the statement, BCP is a real joke in all organisations. Unless there is a compliance body like MAS that review the risk of market failure and punitive damages, everything would be a tick in the box .

Hi all Mazda6 owners, hope you all doing well in this CB period 🙂

I discovered 2 issues on my car recently, would like to seek advice on anyone who experience these before...

1. My side mirror retract (close) well when I remote lock the car. However it cannot finished expand (open) when I remote unlock. If I apply a little bit of force during it expands, it can expand completely. Motor problem? Heard Mazda 6 got side mirror issue, is that something like this?

2. When I Push Start the engine, there is a 'krrrrrkk" sound from the dash board. The sounds is a little bit like motor/gear jam like that. It only happen during the FIRST engine start after unlock the car. If I off the engine and restart again, there is no such sound. (Attached a video below)

Currently Mazda close their service center, have to wait until May for the service check. So would like to first consult the owners here.

Thank you!

i also have the same symptom for point 2 and have been living with it for almost 2 years. have you manage to solve it? mine is a mazda 6 too.

will highlight before my warranty ends.

point 2 sound like steering unlock mechanism.

if off engine and start again no sound, then

you should try also off engine, get out of car and lock car.

repeat the cycle to start does it have same sound?

Neutral Newbie

Hey folks,

Gotten a new Mazda 6 in Q3 2018, and the overall drive and feel have been above expectation considering the purchased price.

Checking on battery:

I read from the past posts that the stock batt usually last about 18 months.

If for e.g. the i-Stop amber light (not green) appeared on Sat (16 May), and it had not appeared in the past few days when the car was driven,  do I need to be concerned with the batt?

Thanks.

Yes it's a sign, and you should drive your car while you still can to a workshop and change asap.
