Test drove the 2.0l M6 last Sat. Coming from Citroen C5, here is my take.

Design

- Well, the facelift surely freshen the design a lot. Looking at the models prior to this facelift at my HDB carpark, those look so dated.

- The Interior design, built and quality is very good. It's even better than Lexus ES to me personally.

- Given the car length, it's no surprise the legroom is ample for the rear passengers. As for the front seat, it a pity that the electric seat sounds quite loud when it's being adjusted.

- A pity that the instrumental cluster is still analogue, lack of ventilation seats and auto dim rear view mirror. (Understandable given the price point)

Drive

- Handling of the car is good. However I find the suspension is a little firm hence it feels very busy and the car body is constantly jumping about.

- Sound proofing in the engine firewall is quite bad imo. The engine sound very loud to me. To make the matter worst, the engine doesn't sound very refine. Given the 2.0l is just adequate/slightly under power, it means very often you will hear the loud engine sound since you will need to rev it to move the car.

This car make perfect sense for buyers looking at Altis and Civic give the price is within the same range. For Camry and Accord buyers, it depends if design and quality is the priority or comfort and perceive reliability is the priority.

Just my 5cents worth of opinions

Mazda 6 indeed still has a lot of work cut out for its engineers to improve on its sound proofing.

You're comparing a mazda 6 with altis and civic which is at least 10k difference from its highest trim? And with civic which had a turbo engine?!

Category of mazda 6 competing with accord and camry. Fullstop.

2.5l definitely much better, but the price range at $135k region opens up to lots of other choices.

1st off, there is no denying M6 is a class bigger than Altis and Civic. 1.6 Altis and Civic should compare with M3 strictly in size. However when you factor in the price, then you can definitely compare them as their price is around the same ball park. Look at the price as at 25 Jul 2018 below

25 Jul pricelist

Toyota Altis 1.6 Standard - $102,988

Honda Civic 1.6 - $95,999

Honda Civic 1.5T - $115,999

Mazda 6 2.0 Standard - $103,800

Mazda 6 2.0 Executive - $111,300

Mazda 6 2.5 Premium - $133,800

Mazda 6 2.5 Luxury - $138,800

Toyota Camry 2.0 - $139,988

Toyota Camry 2.5 - $145,988

New Toyota Camry 2.5 (PI) - $128,800

The price of Altis listed price is only about $1k less than the base M6. The price between M6 and Civic 1.5T is $4.7K. For some consumer, M6 is definitely in the consideration list along with Altis and Civic.

Civic 1.5T 170HP, 220Nm and M6 2.0 is 163HP, 213Nm so power wise is also within the same range.

If M6 is only allowed to compete in it's size class, 2.0 M6 is in no man land.

For 2.5l, the PI Camry is cheaper with a new design. And at $130k range, Subaru Legacy, VW Passat, Skoda Superb will also come in the pictures.

more than 400Nm at 2000 rpm ... SIBEI SWEET!

Too bad the 2.5 Turbo is not available in Singapore.

If price is the factor, compare to mini one also.

You are right.

I think TEK has price the 2l Mz6 wrongly. They should just sell at -$15k cheaper than 2l Camry.

Take advantage of the bend B (VES) + lower OMV to make more profit.

And most important don't confuse consumer to make comparison with Altis and Civic.

Haha.
