I feel there is some inconsistency.

 

When State Leaders pass on, such as LKY, the country (people) not only look after the deceased person till burial day (cremation), we lined up then bow with some clasped their hands like in prayers when they reached the casket, some knee because they were overwhelmed. It was all done, because we respect the person and not because we are praying to the person. Furthermore, we have canons or rifles firing off in honour of the decrease. So if all these were done for an ordinary citizen would it be wrong for anybody to show respect.

while qing ming is a Chinese tradition and more toward taoism or Buddhism. if you have a strong view on this and dun agree with people here, you can discuss with your church or other like minded people elsewhere.

I feel paying last respect is a very personal thing, especially if that person is someone dear.  You can still see the decease one last time, bow 3 times, and let your emotion out. At least that dear someone deserve that from you one last time. As a chinese, doing 3 bow is sing of respect. I do that with LKY, so to me nothing religious about it.

Can Christians attend chinese funeral? Can they look after d body of deceased person (with the Chinese chanting in place) till d burial day?

Yes I am a christian. I do attend funeral wake regardless of religion.

 

As christian one need to know your place when attending such wake. Move aside when chanting start. No holding of incense. You still vow to show respect. You can still give bereaved fund. Remember you are paying respect to the deceased.

 

My mum non christian. I still sent them to mandai during qing Ming. just move aside when they start their praying. So you want your old folk to squeeze public transport and walk a distance to the mandai cementation.

 

My mum loved me so dearly since i baptised for years she has always prepared two dishes. One for her offering and one for me and wife. Never one grumbled.

Bro, different people have different personal definitions / level of comfort wrt what is ok and not ok.

 

Let's say if most of us tell you yes and yes to your qns and you go ahead, and after that, you feel that you did smth wrong, are you going to hold us accountable?

 

Suggest that you speak to your own religious leader(who knows you and your background)  as the advise that he/she can give would be more relevant and suited to your specific situation then what a group of passionate car enthusiasts can offer to you

My uncle and his family are christ believer since young. When my grandma pass away, he hold the joss sticks during the prayers.. This is love and respect.. Always bear this in mind.. Family are everything  It's beyond religion, it all boils down to each and individual.. How the dead means to u..

Went this morning to Choa chu Kang cemetery followed by Bukit brown. Usually will take pie, exit to eng neo, go along bukit timah road & turn into Kheam hock road. This time round found that with the new lornie route opening, I can no longer turn right into bukit brown from Kheam hock road. Had to exit to lornie road, u-turn travel a while then u-turn again before entering via sime road instead. To those visiting bukit brown cemetery do take note. No issue if turning into kheam road from lornie road. even inside the cemetery, the roads have been rerouted so have to drive slowly to check markers for different area blocks

 

Appreciate the assistance from one foreign worker who helped guide entry to cemetery & also to the caretaker aunite who upkeep my grandparents' graves. during this time, one day she can walk 3-4 times up & down to bring families to the different graves, bringing her tools to do the clearing. Still able to this even in her 60s.

How befitting to discuss Qing Ming Festival today. It was raining since the morning as the observance for Qing Ming started to the dusky sky and light drizzle. May i share this melancholic poem with everyone so non-chinese may understand how a Chinese feels when we visit the resting place of our ancestors.

 

清明时节雨纷纷  A drizzling rain falls like tears on the Mourning Day
路上行人欲断魂  The mourner's heart is going to break while he is on his way 

借问酒家何处有  Where can a wineshop be found  for him to drown his sorrow?
牧童遥指杏花村  A cowherd points to the Apricot Flowers Hamlet ( Where one of the best wine can be found)

super confusing the road.

Miss my turn go make a super big U turn.

In the end went into the construction area

Means use old Lonnie road still can turn into kheam hock road ? Or use new Lorne highway ?

the old entrance no more i think.  but still use lonnie road go in .

i remember got a sharp turn left on a new stretch of road. then suddenly u can see the bukit brown sign board on the left again.

 

i miss that on the first time and go back expressway make U  turn.

 

2nd round follow the sign turn left in, for some reason went into the contruction work area. ( dun know if its suppose to be the correct way...

 

now i think back,

the correct way  should go the the old bukit timah road there

kheam hock road enter pass those bungalow area easiler, 

cos we exit that way.
