Civic2000 Supercharged July 1, 2011 Share July 1, 2011 http://www.facebook.com/notes/chen-s...65853076813294 Forward After much thought and consideration, I have decided to retire from active practice as a partner of the Davis Polk law firm with effect from July. It is quite clear to me that given my new responsibilities as MP I will not be able to continue practicing law the way I have in the last twenty years. Law is in my blood and no doubt it will be part of my life. Meanwhile, my retirement from the partnership will afford me more time for my family, to serve constituency and country, and to explore alternative work arrangements. I wish to thank my partners for what I received over the years: their best efforts to aid my professional success and advancement, and the opportunity to use my best faculties to our common benefit. The same goes to our colleagues and clients. I have had many good years with the firm and leave with fond memories and many friendships. On this new journey for Singapore, to everyone who has in some way extended to me encouragement, support and hope, you have my gratitude for reaffirmation. Ahtong 1st Gear July 1, 2011 Share July 1, 2011 Just goes to show that oppo MPs are inefficient. To think CSM needs to quit his full time job just to earn a measly $15k as a part timer. So many MIW MPs can hold their full time lawyer jobs and still moonlight as MP successfully. Some even have the drive to take up a dozen directorships! Aljunied people have voted for this inefficient guy who will personally listen to each of their whinner complaints when he could have assigned suboordinates to do the job. Unlike the daft people here, I actually support Kate Spade in her decision. Being young, inexperienced and only recently weaned, she needs to dedicate her time fully towards learning how to be an MP from her predecessor. She needs to practice how to connect with people, how to show empathy and also read up on what are the hot issues bothering her ward. Such a herculean effort is obviously beyond that of a mere mortal, even one of her pedigree (woof woof) so obviously she had to quit her job. CSM on the other hand is a mature and worldy man. He might reach a stage in life where he think that there are more important things in life, like serving the nation, spending more time with his elderly parents. Since he retired from active practise, he might have part-time practise which might not be announced. MP in opp camp has limited resources (i.e. $ & cents), how to hire a team of pro to help him? For TPL, she juz started her career. As a Senior Associate (2nd lowest rank in consulting firm) & MP, how does her Senior or Manager gonna give her appraisal? She will end up as white horse in EY.
