Mkl22 Supersonic July 21, 2018 Share July 21, 2018 Sent the car home this morning. If its worth anything, I've been blessed to have been able to drive over 90 cars so far, almost all BMWs. Today, I had to re-evaluate my top 5 list. The last time I edited my list was a year ago. I haven't had this much fun in a car in Singapore for a really really long time. (the M2 I drove in Germany) The exos is steams. Throttle down... Braaahhh, lift off throttle... Pop pop pop pop pop pop... Omg... Purposely go hunt down ppl driving cabriolet top down let them hear my popcorn machine. #01: BMW Z4M #02: BMW M2 #03: MINI JCW #04: BMW M140i #05: BMW M4 For 50k more than the skoda rs245, worth it? ↡ Advertisement
inlinesix Hypersonic July 21, 2018 Share July 21, 2018 since we on this topic, what are the usual maintenance parts to replace, else will burn a hole in your pocket for F54 1.6 TC And is the older supercharger version worth considering or just go with the turbo for reliability? The best is still FL R56 Cooper S. For R56, the usual oil change service around 10k km.

Okie.. but I thot the R55 more communicative steering For 50k more than the skoda rs245, worth it? At that price point, hard to beat. In fact, one would argue, why get a civic 1.5T with CVT when you can get a proper hatchback with 2.0T and front wheel differential. Of course the road tax X 10 years makes some getting used to. Vratenza Supersonic July 22, 2018 Share July 22, 2018 (edited) BMW twinpower turbo IL4 engine too.... But I'll take that over the leaky ricketty tritec 1.6L SC and peaky slight anaemic Prince 1.6l TC anytime. To me, I am not the typical mini owner, I focus more on the driving fun and handling more than the interior. I can do without the interior cutiness or quirks (leave that to the VW beetles) that seem to do so for the sake of doing so. Window switches should be near the windows instead of the non-intuitive centre console. Which keen driver in the world have their speedo and tacho outside of their natural line of sight anyway. F generation minis might have been digging in the BMW parts bin quite abit but i feel that they are going the right direction. DACH Supersonic July 22, 2018 Share July 22, 2018 (edited) That's what will eventually happen when a brand comes under an umbrella brand. Unless one day global Mini drivers are making lots of noises about this issue of sharing parts bin with BMW, I think this will continue in the name of saving costs. Or unless it really affects the quality issues of Mini cars. Just hope that BMW will not do this on its Rolls Royce cars. It will certainly be unjust to the brand value with the high price tags. But i don't think N13 prince engine is "peaky slight anaemic". Maybe you like to use Sports mode which is not necessary. i am the typical Mini owner which focus on both driving fun and handling. Whether the direction is right or not, it is a heated debate. Similar to whether current BMW production is in the right direction.
Vratenza Supersonic July 22, 2018 Share July 22, 2018 I owned an R52 S cabrio for a few years. Lots of workshop time and wear and tear parts to replace. The SC engine whine is nice and power adequate mainly because the R52 gen is much lighter and compact car to haul around. Still an addictive car to own and drive, just don't fancy the still very British manufacturing fit and finish. I remembered having to retrofit these, as large analog needle pointing to familiar speed markings works better than small puny digital readouts for me then. To be fair, I only test drove a few R56, so my experience with the 1.6TC is limited to test drive routes. Maybe a more prolonged usage might allow me to extract more out of the engine's performance. Comparing the F56 2.0 BMW twinpower turbo... The BMW engine definitely feels more refined and sophisticated. When they say (I also say) there is no replacement for displacement albeit 400cc applies here as well. The power/torque arrives almost on initial step of the accelerator and just keeps pulling as long as you plant your feet to the accelerator and the road has space for u to run. Mind you, that's just mid mode. Sports mode and your suspension stiffens significantly, throttle response is sharpened and gears are held longer (if AT) . The downshift exhaust overruns (pop pop pop) are pretty addictive and fun to chase after. Coming back to my point on speedo and tacho 2.png I can't comment on Tritec. But i don't think N13 prince engine is "peaky slight anaemic". Maybe you like to use Sports mode which is not necessary. i am the typical Mini owner which focus on both driving fun and handling. Voodooman Supersonic July 23, 2018 Share July 23, 2018 Tachometer and digital speedo is in front of my eye le. On top of analog center speedo. I had drove to Cameron recently. It's not anaemic at all. Everything is relative. I have a 1.6TC at home, can do century sprint in sub 8s (I think), anaemic it is not but compared to the new 2.0T, there is definitely a gap but it is good enough for a city car that we usually don't take any passenger (everyone wants to be driver) nor drive up north. As compared to 2L, 1.6L is short by 5 hp and 60NM torque. In term of 100km/h sprint, 1.6L is slower by 0.6sec. I had drove all the way to Cameron. I will says the 1.6TC is more than good enough for a city car. I know there is replacement for displacement. ↡ Advertisement
