Don't understand why SE refund the $10k back to u. Out of goodwill and now putting his rice bowl at stake. You should have got your car from PI and see what will happen. Not trying to say all PI are bad but definitely it will not be so easy to get yr $10k back. Its all in black and white.

 

Fyi, I am not related to Subaru or any PI. Learn to appreciate when yr SE already did something that he shld not be doing in the first place by giving u a refund.

Don't know about forester but I am consistently getting between 12 to 13 KMPL. When I mentioned to service mechanic during 10K servicing then he was saying you are getting very good. Just an observation, after filling full tank, my first 50% fuel consumption average is better than the FC average from 50% down to reserve. It may not make any sense but that's my consistent observation for last 5 full tank driving.

My theory is that you have better fuel economy when the back of your car had more weight from the more than half tank of fuel. 

When the weight becomes less, your fuel economy become not so good. 

Why like that? 

The heavier weight makes the back more stable and not jumpy which makes the car maintain its forward momentum better and so use less fuel. 

Another way to achieve this is perhaps lower the wheel air pressure for the back wheels. Could be their pressure is higher than recommended.

Some tank are V shape

 

1st half volume n 2nd half volume diff.

 

My citroen 1st half can go 470km, 2nd half less than 200km..
