How problematic is VW's 7 speed DSG?

Not suitable image for me.

 

I actually considered swapping my 1.6 Koup to 2.0 (6speed) koup. Choose same colour as current one, transfer my stuff over and my family won't realise i changed car!

I have narrowed down to 2 cars i be changing to. VW Passat 1.8T and Skoda Superb 2.0T. I visited the showrooms and service centre and most lilkely i will buy the superb. :D warranty is good, power and specs are even better.. best is that all the components are the same as in the Passat as well! I really wonder how they do business like that when everything is the same with diff branding. I am a person who do not mind badge as well... High chance i will join the dark side [:p]

Got difference la.. passat components are more modern.. vs superb.. the steering wheel controls are designed differently but serve same purpose la

VW now as active safety so if u sleepy the car will prompt u..dont think the superb has.. but I'm sure the superb has more stuff as standard compared to the passat and the service center confirm not as crowded as VW's :p

 

and being a skoda owner.. buy SKODA! it's really underrated!

The DSG 7 speeder is only rated at 160 - 170 bhp.

 

So if you are buying a car with 160 - 170 bhp then its at the limits of the box

and reliability will be an issue.

 

Anything about 170bhp VW will need to use the 6 speeder.

and reliability will be an issue.

The torque is the real problem. If u notice, the gti 200 bhp, 280nm engine is never used with the 7dsg.

Personally, I would check out the Opel insignia as well. Rated quite highly in Europe.

The torque is the real problem. If u notice, the gti 200 bhp, 280nm engine is never used with the 7dsg.

 

Gti using wet 6 speeder.....Max torque I think is 350 Nm.

You are exactly right,

 

the torgue is too strong for the box and like bro Yuan correctly

 

said it has to use the 6 speeder box.

 

So if people still want to buy the 7 speeder, they should know the risk.

BPH is not the issue. There are two types of 7 sp DSG. One is the dry clutch DQ250, where the smaller engines are using. Max torque 250nm. The other is the 7 sp wet clutch DQ500, max torque nm600.

As far as I know the GTI only use the 6 speed box.

 

VW sell the GTI with the 7 speed DQ500 box in Spore?

Does dat mean all the problems are only for the Sport models (160/240)? The non-sport (122/200) are ok?
