Forgot to release handbrake

I once drove with the handbrake on for about 20 mins. At end of the 20th min, there is smoke and burnt smell coming out. I thought my car overheated or what. Then come down to inspect and realised its due to the handbrake not being fully released.

recently i had 2 occasion of forgetting to release handbrake and drove the car for some distance before realising. everything seems normal after that until lately i have this two issues...

when my car is in stationary and with auto gear in neutral or parking position and my handbrake is pulled up, the car seems to vibrate and the engine sound is louder than normal. but when i shift into driving gear, the engine sound becomes smooth again

another issue is after parking my car overnight and i drive again next day, when going up and down a hump, there is a 'scraping feeling', sometimes even feel it when turning, this also disappear after driving some distance.

Did not had such issues before, can anyone advise what is the possible problem/cause?

What car? How many years? 2nd or 1st hand?

DId you get the vibration only when you pull up the handbrake or it's always there when you put N or P? If it's there all the time it's not the parking/handbrake. Most probably worned Auto Transmission, may need to change ATF or even the ATF filter if your car mileage very high.... Another reason could be engine mount hardened liao...

Never mind even though this is an Old thread, I am curious how brake light comes on when hand-brake is engaged?! I never noticed so...interesting!

Hi thanks for your comments.

my car is Honda Civic around 4-5 yrs, milage is arnd 80+ thousand.

i get the vibration and loud sound when in parking with handbrake up.

how much does it cost(roughly) to change the ATF/filter?

what happens if engine mount harden and how much (roughly) would it cost to repair that?

Engine mounts cannot repair, must replace. Usually change all pieces instead of just partially, I think without labour maybe 200+ to 300 ba.

I think he means the hand brake light on the instrument panel, not the ones you see on the outside of the car. The one with the red "!" in the red circle.

Yes, I always look at brake light indicator. There is once when moving off I see something not right that brake light indicator still lights up, immediately I look at handbrake and yes forget to release it and I release it and continue with driving.
