For the new year, I think lets start asking drivers about how they feel about illegal parking (Season Parking / Zig Zag lines / continous single white line, did not put enough parking coupons etc).

If you think that this is a lame question, take the poll with the answer from your heart (don't need to worry, your nickname will not be reflected in the choices that you have made). In order to see the real picture (also note the possibility of sampling error), please do not approach the poll via a politically correct midset.

You will be surprise with the results of this poll. If it is one in a million, it is just a trouble maker. If this is a trend, it is a social problem. Either, the offenders are wrong or the governing authorities have set the gound rules that are wrong and against the will of the general car owners / drivers.

I like to believe you can start the new year with something more positive instead

If you see a summon, who would you blame? - Myself. Obviously. Maybe I didn't put enough coupon, maybe I parked illegally.

When you are guilty of illegal parking, do you criticise those who did the same and has caused inconveniences to you? - I don't mind people illegal parking, as long as they do not cause inconvenience to others.

This is going to happen again and again until we identity an incentive for drivers not to park illegally or to have a strong enforcement to deter illegal parking.

How about when they caused some inconvenience to you? Would you mind?

I think TS is rather outdated & out of touch. Nowadays if you illegal park you will have a slim chance of getting away with it. In the past it's not much of a problem. Now ppl & authorities are armed with cameras.

The law should not protect illegally parked cars ie if others see it and puncture its tyres, or scratch its doors etc, too bad.... why its illegality parked in the first place and shows no respect of the law (no parking)?.... :D

I strongly advocate wheel clamp. Its pointless to fine them as Spore car owner too rich and they just cant be bother with small fine. Wheel clamp it & the owner have to report to authorities HQ the next day during office hours to paid hefty fines & deduction of Demerit points. I suggest 10pts is good indicator for punishment of Bor chap attitude.

The idea of wheel clamp hence causing inconvenience to the driver is good.

Sometimes the parking wardens are too busy to discover illegally parked cars and the culprits get away scot-free....

My idea of scratch/puncture serves the same purpose of causing inconvenience (visit to workshop) and hitting the culprits' wallet (just like a fine).... the advantage: no need to employ exstra wardens (which costs taxpayers' money) as anyone can do it to illegality parked cars..... cheap and effective.

This I gotta agree, but must enforce it such that if the car is legally parked and the same is committed. Authorities hunt down the culprit and bring him/her to justice instead of just filing report or not prosecuting.

imagine the number of wheel clamps needed along the stretch of geylang area..... but that would serve a better purpose than just fines...

If illegally park vehicle can not make accident claim, it may help. But Jammed brakes and illegally parked about the same? [:p]

However, your survey a little mild scenario. I mean we should be more concerned with someone in need to arrive at A & E due to heart attack and the likes, being obstructed by illegal parking.

Example: an ex-colleague mentioned he was given 3 'survival' tablets to take if he have a repeat heart attack. He needs to arrive at A & E before the 3rd tablet fully consumed, in order to save his life. Any transport fetching him on such occassion being obstructed would be fatal for him.

Sure, and the 'punishment' for such abuses will be that the culprit's car be displayed for free-for-all scratching/puncturing by others (anyone) for a week for every illegal scratch he has made..... punish the abusers jialat jialat .....

If the abuser doesnot own a car, then he has to do warden service for free.... and set him a quota he must achieve (sumons for illegal parking0 [:)]

Illegal parking is a nuisance, especially on narrow or busy roads, some even went to the extend of double-parking to wait for an illegal parking slot, which to me is totally unacceptable no matter under what circumstances. No amount of parking fines seem to resolve this ongoing problem.

Maybe LTA/HDB/URA should consider installing surveillance cameras on some of the hot spots and/or allow members of public to snap and submit photos as evidence.

If all else fails, we should start an Illegal-Parking Day where everybody start parking illegally on all the HDB carparks and streets to generate awareness of the nuisance and inconvenience caused. Hopefully those regular illegal parkers will wake up!

The law has never offered any form of protection for car owners if people puncture tires, scratch and or dent doors, whether illegally parked or otherwise.
