13177 Hypersonic November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Adding on. I was on the NSL yesterday evening. The trains stopped for over 10 minutes at some stops (average around 5 mins) claiming that there was a train in front. Increasing the interval timing doesn't explain the delay at all. Nowadays train never able to move smoothly de, always stop and go along the track for many times. Not only increased the interval timing, but also the train ride is jerky and discomfort. ↡ Advertisement
Victor68 Turbocharged November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Park and Ride today... Scared no train for me to get home. I think I might be a big stupid. Need some of the engineering train people here to enlighten me. Smrt claims that nsl has not enough trains and that's why there is an additional 40 mins travel time but to a layman like me, wouldn't the existing trains still run at the same speed? Additional travelling time should only affect those who can't board the train because no space right? Old man think like this. for. a fixed distance, traveling at fixed speed between point A and B, time will be fixed lah. But between the 2 points if got more trains in between point A and B. waiting time reduce lor. It is waiting time for next train not the speed. Kxbc Turbocharged November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Thales' reputation at stake, of course they need to make a statement as they're one of the biggest company in the aerospace industry. If the issue is not handle well, the impact will not affect Thales and SMRT only. maybe thales outsourced their IT dept to you-know-which country.those in the IT industry will know these country's IT guys are not very good. but thales don't dare to say. outsource = increase margins!!!!

Looks like driver train system not as good as driverless train system. You see NEL, the train is fixed and move at a fixed interval and speed, the train dont stop suddenly along the track or move slowly due to train ahead etc.

Soya Supersonic November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Should just shut down the entire system by lines and overhual the system, make it right once and for all Radical? Yes. Just make it right. Yeah might as well close down the mrt since half the time, commuters are asked to take the bus after breakdown anyway Better still, make both SMRT n SBS to provide free bus service until the system is fixed and certified by independent 3rd parties. Theoldjaffa Hypersonic November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 Not too sure who this guy is but just sharing for all to view. This guy used Potemkin to describe the current situation in Singapore, which i kind of identify with. Definition of Potemkin from Wikipedia: In politics and economics, a Potemkin village (also Potyomkin village, derived from the Russian: потёмкинские деревни, Russian pronunciation: [pɐˈtʲɵmkʲɪnskʲɪɪ dʲɪˈrʲɛvnʲɪ]potyomkinskiye derevni) is any construction (literal or figurative) built solely to deceive others into thinking that a situation is better than it really is. The term comes from stories of a fake portable village built only to impress Empress Catherine II during her journey to Crimea in 1787. While some modern historians[weasel words] claim accounts of this portable village are exaggerated, the original story was that Grigory Potemkin erected phony portable settlements along the banks of the Dnieper River in order to fool the Russian Empress; the structures would be disassembled after she passed, and re-assembled farther along her route to be viewed again as if new. https://www.facebook.com/richard.goh.90281/videos/10156831138889606/

Yewheng Twincharged November 16, 2017 Share November 16, 2017 (edited) Maybe the maintenance train is also 3 -cars But I will be very worried if the software cannot differentiate the train is on which line or if the front train is a normal train or a maintenance train! As an IT person, I find it hard to believe that the software can have such major glitches! Erm.. Today Era, we have driverless car, this driverless car have sensors that can detect cars stopping, pedestrian crossing and also objects in front. Okay that maybe too advance for smrt train. We also have sensors for normal cars like collision warning system and etc. Why smrt train are not fitted with these technologies? Lta brought Many new trains right? If at the point of buying, should also ask manufacturer to install all these sensors as redundancy leh. Aka if everything failed, at least there is collision warning sensors as the last resort..
