En0203 2nd Gear October 10, 2012 Share October 10, 2012 yup .. i bought it as soon as it came out. was pretty satisfied, but with each OS update, it seemed to slow down. battery life was horrible ... even more so was the HTC service. they have the worst customer service in the history of mankind. when my n1's screen stopped working 3 months in .. i called them and they had their service guy pick it up. i was promised a repair in 3 days ... 2 weeks later, they sent me my phone badly scratched and not fixed .. i was literally yelling at the person on the phone ... and all he told me was that "it happens". i was like WTF? i gave them a pristine phone, and not only did they not fix the screen, they damaged it. finally after a month of escalation .. they agree to exchange 1-for-1. the day before the guy came with the phone, i got a call saying they changed their mind. so i basically had a useless phone (digitizer would go completely bonkers at times). i promised myself i would never, ever buy another HTC product. interestingly enough .. i met someone from the family that owns/runs HTC about 3-4 months ago. "they" had a really nice iphone 4s. (i wont reveal whether its a guy or girl, but cher wang was "their" aunt :P) wow like that also can???? We have since moved away from HTC after N1. Samsung fit and finish is way better not to mentioned it is not boot locked! Having said that, no matter how good, it still cannot match the fit and finish of iphone ↡ Advertisement
En0203 2nd Gear October 10, 2012 Share October 10, 2012 Apple does not need an ip5s, and for most even a S3 equivalent dual core is more than sufficient (unless you do graphically intensive tasks). Think about it this way. Geekbench uses a 1.6ghz powermac G5 as a comparison, and most of our phones are already 50% faster What apple needs is a revamped iOS. some basic things like getting rid of the paper, wood, etc UI elements and make it more in-line with their hardware style (that in itself will make it feel a lot less dated). Then some simple changes like making the notification bar persistent when there are new notifications, or now that there is more space improve what you can do when you double-click the home button e.g. something like android's power control widget rather than the rudimentary crap they have currently etc. Then there's the polished aspect of things. I can't believe people say Android is less polished when I can find more inconsistencies in iOS vs Jelly Bean. Standardising the background textures would be a good start. Take the player control buttons for example. You have one texture when you're in the player, another in the lockscreen, a third when you use the double clicking of the home button version. They can't help other developers UI's or feel, but at least standardise their own lah. Compare the buttons at the bottom of the dialer to those at the bottom of the app store, different. Compare the feel of say contacts and calender to the app store, mail, and settings, then again to photos and again you have three different ones. They really need to take a page out of Googles handbook on this last bit It may sound like a lot, but essentially its simply improving consistency across the UI, hardware, and their own apps, as well as improving existing functionality. i.e. apply the same exacting standards they use for their hardware to their software. Nothing really new, but as those of us who have moved from android 2.x to ICS then JB know, the design, fluidity, and consistency makes a huge difference. Yea, actually my old s2 still feel very snappy to me even with only ICS, maybe i am easily contended However, do remember that technology will never wait, the phone may feel ok now but soon the hardware may become a limitation in the upcoming firmware upgrades, so it's always good to stay near to the top in terms of hardware specs. Good is never enough isn't it
En0203 2nd Gear October 10, 2012 Share October 10, 2012 brother, do you input chinese words via handwriting recognition? one thing that samsung/android clearly stands out against apple and other keyboard apps maker is the chinese handwritting recognition ability. as you see, i am left hander. my strokes are little bit different from right hander. only samsung's/android's factory loaded handwriting recognition technology works well for left hander. i suspect it recognises the looks or image of the word rather than just strokes. but unfortunately, after i upgraded my os, the default loaded keyboard setting for chiense language is gone. hence now i cannot use that to recognise my chinese handwritting. while i use go! keyboard, its chinese handwritting recognitin also recognises the stroke rather than the image of the word. so now i have to force myself to write like a right hander......argghhh wa u still can write chinese. I already forgotten most of the words, always rely on the pinyin to write for me else i won't know how to write them
Sp4wn Turbocharged October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 bro, its the LTE network. its famous for draining lots of battery even if its just on standby. suggest you try tomorrow with LTE disable. on it only when you need to use fast speed data. i'll try one more day with LTE. today got nth on much after work, so will be going home, so dont have to fret if no charger Why redownload. Doesn't the backup restore process port all the data over to your new phone??? it normally does. all my email accounts use google backend with 2 step authentication >< so i had to manually get a new password for each account (for a new device). hence why it reloaded all the emails. Sp4wn Turbocharged October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 okay. keep us posted on the result. yup, if its really teruk, ill be straight forward and say it like it is. to me, i actually dont mind using any phone as long as i can get my emails and get my work done. apple just makes things easier for me because i just dont have the time to tinker or customize my phone ... (i remember the old days of flashing a new rom to my htc windows 6.1-6.5 phones ... and everytime got to slowly reinstall all the settings ... such a pita now that i think of it lol)

Went home with 98%, surf net for 2 hours, boy play game for 1/2 half, whatsapp and email coming in...... over the night and back to office the next day, i still have 37% left after 16 hours my S2 wouldn't last over the night even without touching it. Happily1986 5th Gear October 11, 2012 Share October 11, 2012 wow like that also can???? We have since moved away from HTC after N1. Samsung fit and finish is way better not to mentioned it is not boot locked! Having said that, no matter how good, it still cannot match the fit and finish of iphone To be pedantic, HTC does not lock their bootloader. What they did is to implement signature checking on all overwrite attempts on the /sys partition of the internal NAND. (You can always do a HBOOT and achieve S-OFF ) They also implement PERFLOCK which prevents easy changes to clock frequencies. (SetCPU allows you to disable PERFLOCK too ) Moto on the other hand, has a locked bootloader. Thats really

Samsung u just pop anything u like without all these nonsense The LG Nexus will be announced at the end of this month, very sad why LG. The phone still look ok because it looks like current Nexus but I can't believe they go and match a 8GB internal with no external storage to it! Hopefully it's just prototype and the final one will have at least 16 GB internal otherwise it will be a useless phone

Hopefully they are other high spec Nexus in the pipeline.
Acemundo Supercharged October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 wa u still can write chinese. I already forgotten most of the words, always rely on the pinyin to write for me else i won't know how to write them to be frank, my chinese character writing also deteriorated due to long time not using pen to write chiense. but still can write most words. hence, take every opportunity to write including on my note. Acemundo Supercharged October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 I guess... stroke is important as it helps us to remember how to write more words. It is like memorizing a song is easier than memorizing a dull text. most of us don't even know if there is meaing to each type of stroke, so it doesn't really make a difference to end users whether we were taught to recognise the word or write the word. anyway, in modern day , we get to read much more than we get to write. so recognising the end product of the word makes more sense than remembering the strokes. writing chinese character is not like fixing up ikea diy furniture whereby you get the sequence wrong and you cannot reach the end product. Acemundo Supercharged October 15, 2012 Share October 15, 2012 what time were you using on gingerbread? Galaxy S2 right? the default stock keyboard? yes default stock keyboard. i tried first on galaxy 1, s2 and then my note 1.

Also, the correct method in writing will actually allow us to write more beautifully. for example those word in the boat one. if we write the boat first then insert the word, chances that the chinese character dont look like a circle or square will be very high. of course there are people whose handwriting are like s--t (like mine) draw boat first or later also doesnt make any different.
