my samsung note recognises it very well. i tried it on S2 as well. so i not sure is it samsung's or andriod's technology but it sure can recognise me and wifey (both southpaws) handwritting.

other than this, no other device has come close to recognising. and the moment we start wrting our strokes from right to left instead of left to write, they recognise. so i know all the rest uses stroke recognition technology. maybe it means their recognition of words written in the standard manner is more precise. but it doesn't mean they can recognise words written in the non-standard manner.

this is good if you want to teach the kid the correct stroke of chinese words, me and wife use it quite often when we argue which is the correct way [laugh]

haha this i agree is good for learning stage. i mean last tiem i also follow teacher's strokes precisely.

but after they progressed beyond learning, i think there is no need to be so rigid especially if they are left hander hehe.

Turbocharged

looks like batt life is quite teruk tho. from 8am to 5pm on LTE, battery life already @ 29% (i got 8 email accounts being pushed though - mostly for work except 1)

had to switch to 3G to conserve battery (i cant believe im saying that). plus no way to switch to 2G. now if my battery dies, i have no way to charge it till i get home. blah. hopefully this is a one off thing ..

U need a portable charger or none yet for ip5?

haha normally dont need le. with my 4, i can get through a whole day and have 50% left at night. surprised it dropped so fast. could be because i had to redownload all my emails earlier on my phone (i set each acct to download 1000 emails x 8 accounts)

bro, its the LTE network.

its famous for draining lots of battery even if its just on standby.

suggest you try tomorrow with LTE disable. on it only when you need to use fast speed data.

I just tried, writing my name, right side first then left side.

It can recognize.

Then close the box first before writing the stroke inside... ok.

Left and right side jumble up, ok.

But anyhow draw... cannot.

So.. maybe if the word is 70-80% accurate, it could recognize.

btw, my handwriting is P3 level. [laugh]

I guess... stroke is important as it helps us to remember how to write more words.

It is like memorizing a song is easier than memorizing a dull text.

No accessories yet, or for at least a month + till after Apple has this conference on the lightning connector.

Why redownload. Doesn't the backup restore process port all the data over to your new phone???

yup .. i bought it as soon as it came out. was pretty satisfied, but with each OS update, it seemed to slow down. battery life was horrible ... even more so was the HTC service. they have the worst customer service in the history of mankind. when my n1's screen stopped working 3 months in .. i called them and they had their service guy pick it up. i was promised a repair in 3 days ... 2 weeks later, they sent me my phone badly scratched and not fixed .. i was literally yelling at the person on the phone ... and all he told me was that "it happens". i was like WTF? i gave them a pristine phone, and not only did they not fix the screen, they damaged it. finally after a month of escalation .. they agree to exchange 1-for-1. the day before the guy came with the phone, i got a call saying they changed their mind. so i basically had a useless phone (digitizer would go completely bonkers at times). i promised myself i would never, ever buy another HTC product.

interestingly enough .. i met someone from the family that owns/runs HTC about 3-4 months ago. "they" had a really nice iphone 4s. (i wont reveal whether its a guy or girl, but cher wang was "their" aunt :P)

wow like that also can???? We have since moved away from HTC after N1. Samsung fit and finish is way better not to mentioned it is not boot locked! Having said that, no matter how good, it still cannot match the fit and finish of iphone

Apple does not need an ip5s, and for most even a S3 equivalent dual core is more than sufficient (unless you do graphically intensive tasks). Think about it this way. Geekbench uses a 1.6ghz powermac G5 as a comparison, and most of our phones are already 50% faster [laugh]

What apple needs is a revamped iOS. some basic things like getting rid of the paper, wood, etc UI elements and make it more in-line with their hardware style (that in itself will make it feel a lot less dated). Then some simple changes like making the notification bar persistent when there are new notifications, or now that there is more space improve what you can do when you double-click the home button e.g. something like android's power control widget rather than the rudimentary crap they have currently etc.

Then there's the polished aspect of things. I can't believe people say Android is less polished when I can find more inconsistencies in iOS vs Jelly Bean. Standardising the background textures would be a good start. Take the player control buttons for example. You have one texture when you're in the player, another in the lockscreen, a third when you use the double clicking of the home button version. They can't help other developers UI's or feel, but at least standardise their own lah. Compare the buttons at the bottom of the dialer to those at the bottom of the app store, different. Compare the feel of say contacts and calender to the app store, mail, and settings, then again to photos and again you have three different ones. They really need to take a page out of Googles handbook on this last bit [laugh]

It may sound like a lot, but essentially its simply improving consistency across the UI, hardware, and their own apps, as well as improving existing functionality. i.e. apply the same exacting standards they use for their hardware to their software. Nothing really new, but as those of us who have moved from android 2.x to ICS then JB know, the design, fluidity, and consistency makes a huge difference.

Yea, actually my old s2 still feel very snappy to me even with only ICS, maybe i am easily contended :D

However, do remember that technology will never wait, the phone may feel ok now but soon the hardware may become a limitation in the upcoming firmware upgrades, so it's always good to stay near to the top in terms of hardware specs. Good is never enough isn't it :D

brother, do you input chinese words via handwriting recognition?

one thing that samsung/android clearly stands out against apple and other keyboard apps maker is the chinese handwritting recognition ability.

as you see, i am left hander. my strokes are little bit different from right hander. only samsung's/android's factory loaded handwriting recognition technology works well for left hander. i suspect it recognises the looks or image of the word rather than just strokes. but unfortunately, after i upgraded my os, the default loaded keyboard setting for chiense language is gone. hence now i cannot use that to recognise my chinese handwritting.

while i use go! keyboard, its chinese handwritting recognitin also recognises the stroke rather than the image of the word. so now i have to force myself to write like a right hander......argghhh

wa u still can write chinese. I already forgotten most of the words, always rely on the pinyin to write for me else i won't know how to write them :D
