Joseph22 Turbocharged June 6, 2012 Share June 6, 2012 (edited) i was at the SH shop recontracting my line and i've verified that there isn't any plan to remove smart surf SH has got operators in KL. next time you call in do check if the operator is singaporean the KL side always give wrong information i called the technical officer who happen to be a singaporean. FYI i called to change my data plan and i had ask about it clearly. Smartsurf 100 going to change their 12GB to 1 or 2 GB. (i am honest here i cannot remember its 1 or 2 GB) before jan. you go check at SH shop where those ppl know nuts, show what an expert you are for your benefit who dont read the news but rely on hearsay. please take a look at link attach. i did a extract from it and post below too http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_806913.html StarHub revising data plans as well StarHub announced on Monday that they were also revising their data plans 'to better manage finite network resources'. StarHub said they would be discontinuing their 12GB SmartSurf plans 'in the near future', and that new and re-contracting customers will instead need to choose from any of the three i2Surf plans, which offer data bundles from 1GB to 5GB. These plans come with a $30 data price cap, as well as a free 24-month multiSIM service. The i2Surf plans were launched more than seven months ago. StarHub added on Monday that more details on their LTE devices and services would be announced later. The_Bear Turbocharged June 7, 2012 Share June 7, 2012 singapore is very small, a single basestation can cover a radius of a few km easily thus a teleco will only need something like 30 basestations to cover the entire singapore my figure did not mean everybody will get 100% coverage, it was a purely theoretical figure; if a base station can cover 2km radius then only 30 would be needed based on the assumption that it is a flat landscape and only a single HLR don't forget that starhub has 2 HLR thus requiring double the number of base stations also gsm 1800 base stations are not upgradeable to 3G base stations thus new base stations are required finally gsm 1800 offers only half the coverage a gsm 900 base station can cover. starhub still maintains its 2G network thus it has 2x the number of base stations than singtel has. once again from a purely theoretical point of view. i'm not an engineer so i don't need to explain why theoretical and practical will defer by a great extent finally let us not forget that starhub is the last operator in singapore so the best placing of base stations will be already taken up by m1 and singtel. thus more base stations will be required to provide the same amoung of coverage but whatever it is, if sg needs 5.5k base stations then australia will need 55k so the points in my reply are still valid I think it is very important to note that the existing DBN infrastructure in Singapore at this point of time is equilvalent to most FUH accredited systems that are being implemented. That is not to say the network can always achieve 100% EiSF only a daily basis but you can be quite sure of the permutations possible. Singapore's unique geo-climatic must be taken into consideration when assessing the level of penetration from techical point of view. However, Telcos must also consider the ROI based on their FSG's level of activity. Finally, do not forget that the FSB is too thick to be penetrated without overlapping stations so technically, you do have a point.

Bystander50 5th Gear June 7, 2012 Share June 7, 2012 if i dont need 12GB why am i been force to paying for 12 GB of data plan. That is because the telcos did not offer alternative data plans. It's easy to see through their pricing "strategy".
Blackyv Turbocharged June 7, 2012 Share June 7, 2012 Some people don't use common sense.. who will offer higher plan with lesser data?.. I pay $100 Buck for 4gb but someone else pay low end plan $30+ but come with 12gb... obviously, a mistake...
Maroon5 5th Gear June 7, 2012 Share June 7, 2012 this is the same reason why consumer in USA are complaining about. its not just here. practically most US tech forum, when they talk about telcom, their comment are mostly the same. they are evil. when talk about fight against piracy and game company using DRM, they say, Freedom of speech and they should have rights to get free games. the only sad diff is the US consumers wil exercise their rights if what was promised was underdelivered. here, we only kaopeh on internet, speak to call centres manned by FT and lastly, write to CASE??
