The boatman and the stranded man both one kind. The boatman take advantage of the situation to 'lion open big mouth' to ask for more fare, and the stranded man principles over and refuse to pay the extra. 🙄

Well, how much can the boatman earn ? It's only 1 or 2 dollars extra per passenger. Not like the boatman will be filthy rich by charging that much extra [laugh]

Your local coffeeshop operator humtum you more in terms of anyhow raising price.

I mean, when you are interviewed by a chinese newspaper, even with a dialect name, they will print your name in chinese characters - and when read out, translated into english , those characters will appear as pinyin.

Huh? You under 30? Haven't change NRIC yet?

Used to be 12/30/55

Now NRIC issue at 15, change at 30 then 55.

It also causes problems with international travel, i.e. air ticket. My spouse removed her pinyin too. Just stick to the dialect name.

Pinyin in brackets on the nric is more problematic than alias.
