Called up GainCity to do a quick check.  There is no way for system 2 to upgrade to system 3 directly.  Need a total brand new set.  Even the bracket also need to change as the weight and dimension of the compressor are different. System-3 with extended warranty would be ~$3900.

Still looking around.

Has anyone bought system-3 from Harvey Noman, Best or Courts before?  How was your experience?

Was previously looking at Midea System 3.

The full price at only $2160, inclusive of installation (but without bracket) is quite attractive.

4.9 star happy 32 ratings and from a vendor with "preferred" status.

Similar Mit Electric Starmex would easily be in the range of ~$3.5k.

But as folks here have pointed out, over the longer term, also need to consider the aftermath with pipes etc, if reliability issues surface.

According to the reviews from shopee, this shop:

1. has a "Preferred" status

2. 32 ratings and an average of 4.9 out of 5 stars.

However, when I searched for google reviews, the reputation is a far cry  at 2.2 out of 5.  The comments sounded disappointing too.

Aircon installation is like car repair, which is a service and not standard off-the-shelf product. So I don't start off looking at price, but look for recommendation from reputable sources as a starting point. Then evaluate the details. The final choice will not be be the cheapest at the point of purchase, but the end point is usually better.

For my own home aircon needs, I had been patronising hong tar since 2008 and so far installed 3 sets of mitsu starmex over 2 places.

Most recently was the first set (13 years old) in my parents place. The compressor was down and we felt it was time to just change a new system. I copy and paste below the quotation in Jan 2021 which we took up.

So far, never had any issues with the contractor workmanship. Never a leakage or blockage and I engaged them to do maintenance as well. The 13 year old system (system 4) that recently spoilt only gets maintained like once every 2 years (ad hoc). Mine own place (11 years old system 3) gets maintenance once every 6-12 months.

I personally planned where to place and route all the fan units and trunking. This was becos my parents place previous aircon (carrier in early 90s and daikin late 90s) were badly planned. The trunking ran all over the place inefficiently and we got leakage after just a few years. After I took charge 13 years ago, there has never been any leaking.

Sharing the most recent quotation (Jan 2021) which we took up.

To supply & install "Mitsubishi Electric" multi split inverter aircon: 3,750.00$ (all in, incl gst)

Note: the 3 fan units are all different sizes, HDB 4 room flat.

MXY4G33VA2R1 (compressor for system 4, due to the huge unit for living room)

MSXYFN10VER2 - 2.8kW fan unit for bedroom
MSXYFN13VER2 - 3.5kW fan unit for Master Bedroom
MSXYFN24VER2 - 7.1kW fan unit for Living room

- upgrade to G22 copper pipe, 1/2 thick Class O thermaflex, Class 1
insuflex, Singapore Keystone cable & 16mm pvc pipe

- dismantle/dispose existing "Mitsubishi Electric" system 4 aircon

HONG TAR AIR CON & FRIDGE TRADING, google for the pnone number, can look for Katherine, she has been there since 13 years ago.

sorry to hijack your tread.

Would you know if the Mitubishi remote works across the board. I am trying to find a replacement remote for MSXY-GA26VA.

But aliexpress do not have this model. I am currently using a universal remote, but its crappying out on me unfortunately.

Warm Regards

Samuel.

The model must be the same, otherwise the frequency won't work. Check your remote control for the model not the look. It is usually written on the back of the remote control not the fan coil.

From my experience having 3 different gen of Mit inverter aircon systems from 2008 to 2021and countless original as well as third party remotes (bought from online), they worked interchangeably.

I had bought quite a number of those third party remotes from online around $10+/-. The quality compared to original is around  minus 10% and is obvious the moment you hold on it and press the buttons. But they do work well and alot cheaper if you are ok with the inferior feel. It just feels a little less solid thats all.

If you are buying from online, you can double check the info. Usually the seller will list the aircon model series that will work.

Just use this https://www.ambiclimate.com/

It will intelligently maintain room temperature regardless of the outside temperature.

Here's my cheap DIY.

I put some small velcro strips (hook side), then cut the filter to stick onto it. The filter is those advertised for oil filter use in cooker hood. Both are cheaply available.

It'll catch more dust/dirt and prevent them from coating the cooling coil, causing blockage of cold air flow.

And so I clean (with high pressure water jet) my other Sanyo single split today. It's probably close to 20 years old and the first time I'm deep cleaning it. [:p]

I notice the air filter is a lot denser (maybe 4x) than the Mitsubishi. Less small air particles (dirt) pass through and clogged the cooling coil. I think the Starmex air filter is a bad design and needs better filtration. I had replaced the Fujitsu with the Starmex bcuz "aircon not cold, water leaking from the rear". On hindsight I could have saved the money and just get the Fujitsu cleaned up, which I didn't know then.

So it seems these split aircons last a long, long time. You just have to get it cleaned up periodically.
