Car camera recommendation

I'm looking for a car camera, and it seems like iRoad gets mentioned a lot. I have a few questions, hope iRoad users can help to enlighten me.

1) Are there any overheating issues with the camera, be it v9 or v7? My car will be parked under the hot sun for the whole day.

2) The video files are in .jdr format. I assume there is a way to save the video files on my smartphone via Wifi? Is there a way to view them on my smartphone after the Wifi connection is terminated? Or will I always have to use the PC software to convert to AVI?

3) I've read a few reviews where people say the camera hangs unexpectedly and they didn't know until they tried to connect to it via Wifi. Anyone here has the same problem?

Lastly, but not related to iRoad, I'm using the Itronics camera, which appeared to be very popular 1+ year ago. But people hardly mention it now. Anyone knows why?

If you are operating your camera on parking under hot sun, the cabin temperature can go between 60-80°. The issue can be camera and SDcard depend on their operating temperature. Example V7 operating temperature is 70°C and SanDisk SD card operating temperature is 85°C. The camera with the SDcard usually facing the sun and it can get quite hot under operation.

Btw, why do you want to pay so much for a camera since car already so expensive to own? The important of a car camera is able to operate reliably and capture clear image both day and night, let me recommend you i66A. The i66A can do what the "branded" does at a much lower cost, it come with a promotion of $138 (usual price $168.00) which include 32G MicroSD card and Power Box now. If you want a park recording, we offer battery pack which coming in early Aug 15 that not only works but also flexibility and low maintenance cost. If you don't trust this new brand, look at the review by some of our users or ask for a 7day free trial yourself. Customer who trial getting one because they do not want to pay for over price one which does the same thing since car today already every expensive. Interested to try it out, PM me. :)

Hi all

i came across a post on Facebook where a thief stole a bicycle rack from the back of the car.

It was thanks to the front and rear camera, it caught a very clear image of the thief.

Please pardon my newbie question, as i am only getting my 1st car in end September, i understand that most cameras are activated when the engine is on. Such cameras that was used seem to detect motion and start recording.

Are those cameras worth investing?

If one spent over 100k on a car, don't cheap on spending another 500-1k for a dual-channel (front + rear cam). Make sure the car cam comes with parking-mode recording, and do ensure the installer help you to connect the car cam to your car battery or an external battery source. This way you can have continuous recording even after you off your car engine.

Hi!

I intend to get the BlackVue DR650GW-2CH to replace the current Anyview SI-400 which has stopped recording [+ no support from DSXuite :( ].

Anyone has a particular workshop to recommend from their list of authorised dealers, please?

http://www.blackvue.com.sg/authorized-dealers.html

I assume the purchase comes with installation? Or at least it can be installed at point of purchase (paid service)?

Would it be necessary to purchase the Power Magic PRO &/or the Cellink B Battery Pack?

Any advice is fully appreciated! :Þ

Sometimes at the expense of the life of the car battery. [laugh]

I am using Itronics car cams at the front and rear though. But my recording stops after the car engine is switched off.

If your camera is installed in the way that it will in start operating when engine is started, then there's no need to enable Motion detection mode, or commonly known as parking mode which is a battery saving mode when the engine isn't running.

I did mine with Chuan Sing. Overall satisfied with the workmanship.

I bought the Celllink battery pack as well. If I remembered correctly, the battery is about $300+(?) but it gives me peace of mind that I will still be able to start my car at the end of day.

Contact Chuan Sing (Serangoon Gardens), their price for Blackvue (BV) comes with installation. Some workshops charge installation fee on top of the Blackvue price.

Without Power Magic Pro/Cellink, your BV shuts down when you turn off ignition. Your car goes blind at the car park, not a good idea if you want to continue recording when your car is parked.

With Power Magic, workshop will connect your BV to Power Magic, then Power Magic to car battery. When you turn off ignition BV draws power from your car battery. Power Magic will shut down BV if car battery voltage drops to certain threshold. Some cars are more sensitive, your BV might consume too much power until you cannot start the car the next morning.

Cellink works like your phone's Powerbank, it is a block of battery which workshop connects BV to Cellink, then Cellink to alternator. BV draws power from Cellink. When your car is running the alternator charges your Cellink, when you switch off ignition Cellink powers the BV until Cellink drains off completely. Good for those who are concern on car cam sucking too much juice from car battery, however Cellink is pretty expensive... cost as much as a set of BV DR650.

You have to weigh the pros and cons and decide yourself, for me I went with DR650+Cellink and it has been serving me very well since March till now. Just a price indication: DR650+Cellink+installation is at S$1k thereabouts.

You want to try Inspirland i66A, it does better than Blackvue at only $168. You can check it out at Stamford tyre and installation should be included. camera detail can be found at Inspirland.com.

Be careful when you use Celink as it need modification to your car circuit which if is a new car can void warranty. My dad just buy a new Lexus and the AD refuse to install camera for him as they said such modification burn away the car computer board and I also hear something happen to a BMW using Celink.

Hi,

Been looking for a car camera and have short listed the Iroad V9 and the Blackvue 650DR.

Based on what i have read up, the Iroad V9 has an inbuilt function to cut off the power when it detects the voltage drops to certain level whereas for the Blackvue 650, we need to buy and install an additional device (PMP) in order to do the same thing. Is this correct?

If yes, then when we compare the prices and specs, it's should be based on Iroad v9 vs. BV 650 + PMP, in order to do an apple to apple comparison.

Would like to know other bros' view on this.

Thanks.
