LOLZZ 8 speed or 7 speed is for fuel economy efficiency . u dont really think is for performance do u . wakaka .

same goes for those merc or other conti cars . those 7 8 speed is never meant to hit for performance . is juz as simple as that . BUT then again now i m still doubting the 6.3 seconds . seriously .

edit : oh i forgot to mention . one of the main reason is also for longer gearing n etc etc . definitely not for performance benefits .

What transmits power from engine to wheels? you mean that if you do not want efficiency, you can delete gear box? lol

I did not mean to say 8 number gears help you. WHat I said was that the latest 8 gear steptronic type is good enough to acheive 6.3s. BM used the double clutch for its performance series.

hi all, need gurus advice here, as i been driving minicooper for my past 3 year, i never had a 4 door sedan before, but as i need to set up a family. i will need to get a 4 door sedan.

currently i had 2 choice, which is the 528 and s4, but i am preffering 528 as it is bigger, and smaller cc at only 2 litre, and got pick up, and better fc.

any other cars for reccomendation? and is 528 a good car? any major problem, care to share please

Suggest TS go with 328 if looking for performance sedan. Compare my F30 (320) with my sis F10 (528), the handling of F30 is better than F10. But comfort n lux level the F10 is better. You will love the handling of BMW. My F30 is 2 months old n I had encountered 2 problems.

1. iDrive black out twice but return to normal once restart engine.

2. Doors rattling sound n PML had solved the problem with anti friction tape.

In addition, start-stop function of the car can be quite irritating but PML can reprograme it to default off. Run flat tyre on the bimmer may not be as comfort as normal tyre. The new TC engine is very fuel efficient but miss out the traditional Bimmer 6 pot feel.

I think it does help with performance also. If you got more gears then the first few gears can be shorter to help acceleration but still have gears tall enough so that top speed still remains the same.

Between an 528 and an S4? Seems a strange comparison.

Comparisons doesn't have to be between cars in e same class.

Anyway for TS I can suggest the 520, den do a stage 1 ...

i had driven 520 for 3 weeks b4, and it is really underpower, so i will not consider it.

anyways thanks guys for the advice, i had go show room today for some test drive, and s4 is quite disappointing, my personal preference is still 528.

sorry for the confusion, as i put s4 and 528 together is due to the pricing, that is within my budget lol

Yes in terms of emission control. My last one was IL-6 and now on Twin turbo. IL-6 was very smooth and sounded great. I feel this new 4 potter is more powerful.

the specs wise in terms of horsepower and 0-100 doesn't look in anyway inferior for the current 528 versus an inline 6 525. but I always thot BMW fans say die die must only get a 6 potter for a bmw and never a 4 potter.

Have you driven the new 520 Twin turbo? If you feel that is underpowered, my suggestion for you is 328! 328 is better than 528 in terms of feeling the power!

Yes, BMWs are known for IL-6. BMW fans still prefer 6!

You have to see how this zf8 gearbox shifts gears. Very fast, unlike typical ah pek cars. It is also very efficient in transmission, meaning you get more at the wheels from the same engine.

Don't have to doubt 6.3s to 100. Just need to go test drive. If don't dare to, just go youtube search for 528i acceleration video. The new turbo 4 pot is actually faster than the older 3l inline 6 for most practical situation.

You drove the e60 520i or f10 520i? Big difference in power. The f10 520i actually pulls stronger than even the e60 525i for daily driving, thanks to the turbo.

s4 and 528 is different catagory...then again, there is another car that is within your budget. The M135i.

TS, why was the S4 disappointing?

It has more power than the 528 right?

but how about yourself? now that you are on the twin turbo, do you miss the 6 potter? :D

I do miss my IL-6 - silky smooth. But, I changed because I never owned a turbo earlier. In fact, Cefiro V6 was also damn good. But, present 4 potter is more powerful than IL-6.
