Fattytey 1st Gear September 4, 2012 Share September 4, 2012 you have a family and you are still thinking 0-100???? ... And a luxury car is meant to be driven with enjoyment... not speed off and chiong...Anyway 528 will be a good choice is you don look at the very prominent faults... 1) SE... PML is know to have stuck up SE 2) Service centre... You realise that PML is filled to the brim in terms of servicing? And you have to ask them tyo call u to let u book at date for serviving? Not you go online and book at your own pace.. You go online and ask them to return a call... which will take days... and be prepared to wait easily 1-2 months for your date... Forget about calling the service centre... NOBODY WILL ENTERTAIN YOU!!! Cos nobody pick up the call!! Forget about asking your SE to help... PML is also know for poor aftersales 3) Engine and Gearbox problem... 5 Series are know for their gearbox problem... its all over the BMW forum... Se will tell u it's like that... wait till your warranty over..they will sing different tune... GEARBOX SPOIL... change at $15-20K.. and there are also cases of engine oil leaking.. With the type of $ you are willing to pay... there are many choices... E250... Gs350... XF or even XJ... maybe INFINITY... just forget about 528... ↡ Advertisement

Civic6228 6th Gear September 4, 2012 Share September 4, 2012 520 sells more than 528 3 series sells more than 5 series Money plays a part. Paying 25k more not money? What about higher road tax and insurance? This is true to most, like it or not. 520i and 528i are using the engine if I am not wrong .... so road tax is the same ..... not so sure about insurance. For 10k more, between a 328i and 520i, I would go for the 520i .... maybe becos of my age ..... but the 5 series is one class up on the 3 series. IMO, if someone can afford the budget for a 328i or 520i, money should not be such a big issue ....

inlinesix Hypersonic September 4, 2012 Share September 4, 2012 True. But, I felt 520 power is enough for our roads. I do not even use the sport mode most of the time. Just on comfort mode. If some one needs extra power, can always buy 528! Actually, M54B22 is more than enough for our road [laugh]
Steptronic Supercharged September 5, 2012 Share September 5, 2012 true. even by 25k is still within a reasonable %. Of cos for singapore roads, the 520 is always enough. but people won't 'hiam' the additional power mah... From purely power point of view, I would put 328 ahead of 528. But, 5 series handling is always better. Someone here said 3 series handling was better than 5 series, which I do not agree. So, the bottomline is 520 was best of both world. You are right, age is another factor. Any Ah beng would prefer 328 - shear power. Anyone crossed Ah Beng style driving would prefer 520.

Beanoyip Turbocharged September 5, 2012 Share September 5, 2012 Tested both the 328 and 528.. 328 is raw power and quite spacious compared to its predecessor 3series. 528 same amount of raw power but get that luxury feel, much more sturdy car as well. Have been in the Audi camp for a long time, but these 2 cars surpasses them.

What about higher road tax and insurance? This is true to most, like it or not. friend, the road tax of current 520 and 528 is the same as both are fitted with 2L engines. the only difference is 528 is with twin turbo but the engine capacity is the same as the 520. insurance I do agree will have some difference though as different turbo engines will have some variation in the insurance premium. WHat differentiates 528 from 520 is engine tuning and valve timing. For my profile, 528's insurance was just 100$ more, this may be due to market valuw difference only (no issue with turbo)

For my profile, 528's insurance was just 100$ more, this may be due to market valuw difference only (no issue with turbo) Iam quite baffled then. since 520 is also twin turbo like 528, how did they achieve the difference in the bigger bhp and better 0-100 for 528 as the engine capacity is the same? ↡ Advertisement
