Kelpie 2nd Gear October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 Hi all, Lately, when I braked the car, the left wheel will give out this irritating "EEeee...." sound. The noise gets louder when I brake harder. The workshop fellow told me the brake pad is still very thick and it is perfectly normal to have the sound. Asked me not to spend the money unnecessarily. However, he can always change it and the noise may go away. What do you guys reckon? Thank you very much. Regards, ↡ Advertisement

inlinesix Hypersonic October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 Could it be uneven rotor? Move your hand around the rotor to feel it when it is cold.

Regards, Your brake pad/brake disc might have oil etc. take out brake pad, ask them to skim the surface away. was skeptical , but worked for me... Or like davidtch said, uneven rotor. Genes 6th Gear October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 The previous time i had this issue, it was caused by a pebble that got stuck between the grooves of the brake pad. Removing it removed the sound during braking. You might wanna ask your mech to check.

Lovemyride 4th Gear October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 My case was change brake pad and the problem still persisted. That time I was not that experienced with cars. The joker workshop still brought me for a test drive and created the sound and asked if this is what I'm talking about. I said yes and he said it's normal. It's quite a famous tyre shop in Ubi. Bloody jokers. Went to another shop and they changed rotors and wheel bearings. Problem solved. From then on, I only did minor stuff like change light bulb or tyre stuff with them. Now I also thinking twice whether to go back to them. They can pump air for me and forget to put the cap back or don't screw it tightly. Tyre change, if they don't tighten fully the nuts, it's a cause for disaster on the road. Small things can already be so careless, what more say big stuff. I see I also scared. Kianbeng Clutched October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 (edited) Check if the pads have direction for installation. If not, then you can swap inside with outside. Or if they do need to be installed on a specified direction, then maybe you can swap it with left/right tyres. I believe at a certain angle/shape of the brakepad + rotors, it produces a squeal. By right I believe it goes away after sometime but if its unbearable, you might want to try this. It worked for me. Also, another possibility is your rotors. Some makes/models, the recommendation is to have the rotors changed almost everytime when the pads are changed. Some of the rotors are also cheap, like 100+. The reason is because the rotors have a groove and when they are not changed, the groove becomes deeper and causes the squeal and the noise will get worse if the rotors aren't change. Mintt 1st Gear October 8, 2012 Share October 8, 2012 had the same problem. went to the first workshop who took out the brake pad and 'grind' it smooth. did it together with servicing and cost me $30 extra. prob went off but few weeks after, the sound came back. for me, it's on and off. when parked under the hot sun, the prob tend to come back. few months later, went to another workshop who skimmed the rotor and changed brake pad. prob gone away. but sometimes i do hear eee sound still, although not as loud and frequent. cost about $150 (but this brake pad produces lotsa brake dust) for both times, my brake pad is still quite thick. ↡ Advertisement
