My take has always been, if you want a dinner then be prepared to “lose money” but I agree with the Malay community in that the one invites so that others can share in your joy. Otherwise restrict the number to very close.
heck, when my kids get married. For me, just sign can liao. Everything else is optional. It’s their life, decision and debts. I don’t need to please relatives and give or save face. 🤣

Give $100 more its a once in a lifetime opportunity.

They have to buy flat and not cheap these days.

And not everyone like me but maybe baby coming and hospital fees not cheap.

And most important they suddenly will be like see you so happy.

People don't forget the guy that gave the big ang pow.

If you give below market rate they will also never forget you.

:D

Go super memorable...go makan but no give...🙏😁

I just had 2 tables in Wan Hao Restaurant Marriott Hotel, my own family and my wife family for about 20 pax with solemniser, no money to lose. Still can park my  old Toyota vios outside the hotel main lobby. 😁

I have a grand auntie (this was how we called her) gave a token amount, just like the ang bao one gave to the cleaner of their area during CNY long long time ago.

No complaint lah, she came we happy liao. :D

Don't think anyone is expecting old auntie or uncle to give a big angbao. A token amount is a blessing.

Anyway, wedding celebration has become such a money churner for hotels and high end restaurants, everyone is paying for it, the couple, their family and invited guests.  At good hotels, a table cost $3-4k, likely to lose money for host.

That's the spirit.

Invite people they come is happy already.

They give how much is immaterial

We invite people is share our happiness.

They come is grace us with their presence.

Not make money from people.

:D

That's why we have to make the occasion memorable for them...it's the presence and not present that counts...😁

I really cannot stand people that never see people for a long time and only invite them for wedding.

Its like their ang pow they happy to see.

Not the person.

I can only speak from my own experience.

My MIL invited all the people that didn't like to see her.

But they very happy to see her daughter.

And they very interested to see the guy that made her pregnant.

Lucky I am not the shy type.

Unfortunately it wasn't obvious.

If very obvious I would have told everyone.

Give bigger ang pow hor.

Soon will be 3 mouths to feed not only just 2.

Tell the truth no need to be shy right?

:D

If life gives you lemons make lemonade.
