The bumper crop expected in 2015 and 2016 to drive down COE prices may not materialise if

a) Govt tweaks the COE supply policy by then whereby the supply is evened out to prevent the drastic dips and increases in COE price. This is highly likely

b) Too much of pent up demand which will build up by then.

c) Economy picks up speed and is in high gear in 2015

d) With economy picking up speed, more highly paid expats arrive.

I am thus not hoping for any fall in COE prices in 2015. It may even exceed 100k. But this will make the 2016 elections very interesting.

What better way to let market works its way and win votes for the govt in 2016? Govt will moderate COE, just like they would for property prices, to keep inflation and gearing at a sustainable level, then 2015/16 maybe give bonus COEs. I hope they don't listen to all those nonsense talks on COE balloting...

Anyway, that is 2016, 13th Mar is our immediate concern. I maybe go tikam tikam at ATM too. LOL.

many middle income who have real needs for a car, cannot afford or have to tighten belts in order to got one. [rolleyes]

My thoughts: If a family has genuine needs to get a car now, they dont really have to buy a new car at $70k or $90k COE. They could have gotten a 6-7 year old car in good mechanical condition for the time being. The Nissan Sunny should be within reach?

If buy a 6-7 year old really depends a lot on your luck, cause the car could have many underlying problems or wear and tear that the previous owner did not do. Also after buying, the car can only drive for about 2-3 years, after that have to think what to do next?! [rolleyes]

interesting - honda has raised new car prices after bringing it down on 1st march - with a 40+k COE rebate

does this mean that demand for new cars remain relatively strong such that Kah motors remains comfortable with raising prices?

wondering if other MCFers know what was the change in rebate or if any other ADs raised prices?

Thanks to the super high COE now, then you can find 6-7 year old car in the used car market. Last time even you want to buy also not many or dont have.

Last time? Even 3-year-old car kena sent to NZ or Sri Lanka. Depreciation p.a. higher than new car of the same model.

Honda in today ST half page ad, Civic 1.6 downpayment only $45,000, so the actual price is S$112,500, slightly lower.

Many car dealers are slashing the price, but they do not post it in SGcarmart, so that consumers cannot easily compare price.

Here are my findings in today's Straits Times ads:

In today's Straits Times,

Toyota Altis, S$99,988, last month price $133,988, drop $34,000;

Honda Civic 1.6, $112,500,(downpayment 45000),

Chevrolet Cruze 1.6 only $89,999, from the photo it is auto gear, including 5 year warranty.

I have called this dealer and they confirmed the price is for normal plate, not OPC. Their last month price is 129,999 for Manual and 139,999 for Auto, drop at least 40,000

Ford Focus, from $125,500, last months hatchback price $153,888, drop at least 28,888

Opel Zarira Tourer (7 seaters) Last month $170,999, now S$129,999, drop $41,000

Volvo S60, from S$139,999, last month price $219,000, drop 61,000, but this price could be OPC, if so add 17000. it is 158,888, drop 44,000

The Chevrolet and Opel really drop a lot, anyway, I guess many are still wait until 13 Mar bidding result, the drop could be more than $40,000;

even some dealers can hold the price high this round, I don't think they can hold it for more than 2 months.

Microsoft bundles IE with Windows OS, and was fined more than 1 billion by US and European government.

Every car consumer should complaint to Singapore government for car dealers bundling COE to car cost.

Here is CCS contact

http://www.ccs.gov.sg/content/ccs/en/About...Contact-Us.html

CCS should fine any car dealers who refuse to quote a price without COE.

MAS should separate COE loan from car loan, COE has no depreciation, it is rediculous to let deal charge 2-3% annual interest on COE loan.

In previous 10 year loan, a dealer can make 20-30% interest from high COE, as COE value is guaranteed, buyer can get refund anytime scrapping the car, the guaranteed profit of COE loan even higher than selling a sedan car.

Here is MAS contact:

http://www.mas.gov.sg/Feedback.aspx

Take your action to urge government step in with more measures, make the market fair and open to competition, prevent a couple of big dealers from manipulating COE premium.
