Thinking how many will scrap their cars and take mrt when reach 2015-2019 where many bought their cars during the super low coe?!

Hmmmm...."family" cars being given up and 2nd cars being bought by the rich?

Wonder if that will have any sort of effect on MRT loads?

This is a very very good thing!

Wonder what the details will be like - linking of MRT cards? Something like the "family" plans that the telcos offer.

I have said before, when a whole family travels together, there is little difference between public transport and car / taxi....we are 5 people when we go out, like that it is surprising how quickly the cost mounts and it makes public transport on a par with driving in direct costs (as in, parking and petrol)

hurting pocket isn't really working...maybe one of the way to make people give up driving is to make it really troublesome..

like jam till like bangkok, cannot find gas stations, bumpy roads full of holes, cannot find parking lot for hours, and when found, the lot is either too small, or 100% prone to bird shit attacks, etc.. [idea]

of course, they must improve the train reliability first... private transport must be much more jialat to make people switch. [smash]

Hopefully the mrt can handle the loads if that happen?! If they want people to give up cars, surely they must have a trustworthy public transport system.

If more people take MRT, will we see more break downs caused by overload ?

How about doing away with the COE system? Gahmen can control car population by using 1 scrap car paper to exchange for 1 COE to buy new car. Those who want to buy new car but don't have scrap car can buy from sgcarmart.

lta is tweaking policy here and there, doubt it is in their overall plan to give more coe and they may even reduce coe as they are trying to get more people to move to public transport. So, coe will remain high or go even higher..

Just my $0.02.

What's wrong with collecting more money?

Gahmen is already very rich, no need this money. That's why they said COE and ERP system are not for revenue generation

They also say gst is to help the poor, since they wanted to help so much, wonder why didn't raise to 16% so that the poor could get more help.... Hehe...

The COE thing does not concern me in anyway, as I still have about 8 years to go my 2 cars. But I can forsee the price will not drop any further from here or stabilize around 65k - 77k+. Here some of my opinion :

1. Having new quality citizens filling the 6.9mil target. This are new middle income that have strong household balance sheets.

2. As upper middle class cannot afford CAT B, will flow to CAT A.

3. There are still not control on how many cars per family or individual own.

4. The increase of COE price does not affect the buy power of the rich.(Singapore have the highest HNW in any other regions. And is still growing fast).

After all these, do you think the price will fall much? Even a middle income like me, can afford 2 cars. So to say, what about the rest?
