Yes. Writing on the wall.

So you return tray or not?

i don't return tray in food court.those who talks about gracious are purely gong lan bird words only.the cleaner jobs are being subcontract out to those cleaning companies.

but it's true mah

we are against the endless import of so-called FTs (PMETs) but the govt keeps insisting we are against FWs

and they go on to squeeze the construction, shipyard and F&B sectors which need the FWs most

i feel sad for the young people of today

they study hard to be pmet only to face cheaper better faster imports

at the same time the govt ask people to be crane operators, 7k teksi driver, hawkers :D

(for all you know, the call for more of these blue collar workers may genuiely stem from a real shortage of these blue collars workers)

at the same time, the govt let in many foreigners to study in unis

very very hard for the people not to link the 2 together

As it is, there aren't enough cleaners in food courts already. Sometimes during peak times, nobody clears the table for good 5-10min. If the operators are to sack those existing cleaners, don't think the situation will improve much. If it gets worse, patrons will jolly well bring their business to restaurants instead. I don't really think they are trying to reduce the number of cleaners.

I am pretty sure they will reduce some headcounts.

Say if previously they have 3 cleaners, they will now reduce to two.

Every operators wants to cut cost and maximize profits. To do that, they don't need rationale, they only need reasons. Now, this tray return thing has provided them the best reason.

Costs will not be lowered and if any, significantly.

Cost will still raise in due time and more 'innovative' methods sprung out.

I also agree with you.

But as an example, operator I need 5 staff before - 3 old ah aunties, 2 young FTs.

Now I need 3 since work is less.

2 will need to go - who should I ask to leave?

Any F and B people here to shed light?

you are forgetting that that u need ratio of singaporean staff to work permit or S-pass holders to be maintained within the cleaning company.

I see this trend too and many have mentioned this before.

Can't seem to find any stats to justify this....

I got this idea that tray return would put old aunties and uncles out of jobs, benefit greedy operators and with no savings will be passed to consumers.

Though I always clean up when I know someone is actively waiting for my table.

Otherwise I am not for tray return for now.

Anyone disagree?

Auntie and uncle can do other things what, like serve customers, mop floor, wipe table.

Returning trays help lessen their workload. They old already, should not make them do too much.

The opposition has actually highlighted the issues of FTs vs FWs in the parliament, that Singapore needs more FWs than foreign PMETs

however Hui'ge pleaded WP not to freeze the import of FWs "on behalf of 200,000 families"

absolutely ox head =/= horse mouth

don't know he's simply not aware of the situation or just chose to ignore

actually our requests are very simple:

- we need FWs in construction, shipyard, F&B sectors

- we need FWs doesn't mean they, any Tom, Dick and Harry, can get PRship or citizenship easily

- we do not need so many foreign PMETs, especially those with dubious foreign degrees or no capabilities

- we need to crack down FTs here who hire people from their own countries and discriminate Singaporeans (this is very sad... Singaporeans tio discrimination in own country)

- we are not against subsidizing the foreign students, but places in local universities should be first reserved for local students who are able to make it

- we are not against meritocracy but Singaporeans should come first

return tray or not is secondary.

it's the food that matters

ultimately decides if the operator has excess to employ

we need standard of living to go south, allowing senior citizen to retire from work and enjoy life and not to worried about livelihood and work to collect trays, cupborad, or trash... so sad, the direction is totally wrong.... do we hv to work till we die?

i feel sad when old ppl clean and collect tray, but i even sadder if they are without job that they need for a living if they are made redundant with this initiative....

do you agree, simpleonly?

Anyone disagree?

so you are one of those who will make the public toilets dirty and disgusting so locals might keep their jobs?

i disagree..returning trays shows that one's society is mature and civic minded and the table wipers can concentrate on their foremost tasks..which is to clean the tables..i have one peeve though..that is the table cleaners are not using proper tools to clean the tables..minimum have to use micro-fiber cloth and spraying disinfectant on the tables to kill the germs and bacteria..which is sorely lacking

Not all use cleaning company.

Some F and B have high FT quotas anyway - dont know why and how - just need to open our eyes. - http://www.transitioning.org/2012/04/22/bo...n-month-of-may/

I heard got loopholes in the quotas - eg get wife, relative as employee etc.

Are you very sure the ratio would safeguard the singaporean staff? If got good assurance, then I will embrace the policy.

hey.... washing those plates/bowls/spoon or chop-sticks job still available ... [sly]

[:p][:p]

Dishwashing not suitable for many old people I think.

Need to squat - old people knees no good.

Hands wet and chemical contact - old people skin dry and thin

which part of the article say they can get higher FW quota? (it is not FT, FT not meed quota, just S pass or employment pass).

they never see the company workforce or books, how can they claim these companies get higher FW quota?

Thought gahment pushing for automation and higher productivity? Still using labour to wash? Time for greedy businessmen/women to invest in dishwashers.
