Air purifiers

Bought a Blueair 403 on Tuesday. Turned it on and let it run for 48hrs non-stop. Haze is gone today.

I bought blueair 203 2 weeks ago after having respiratory problems. It really helps a lot. Totally no regrets, especially haze is now going to be a biannual affair.

my fart very toxic, dont want to kill the filter

The study not done by not SPRING or PSB meh.

haha visually to a consumer, it has zero appeal one.

Haha china one they smoke out an entire room or light like a handful of ciggies and let it pollute the room, then they switch on the air purifier in an enclosed room. And got video highlights somemore

There is no formal standard in Singapore for testing air purifiers. CASE did a study, once in 2013 and also 2014 on a limited list of consumer products. You can check the link I shared earlier on this thread for the two reports. Novita did quite well in both tests.

I see, thanks bro.

To a certain degree, clogged up filter filters better.

Hi guys, initially I didn't wanna comment here cos I have not read the whole thread, but I feel that the above statement is somewhat misguided.

Please read this website "smartairfilters.com". They back up their info with empirical evidence (using a particle counter, VOC detector etc), NOT with seat of the pants fart tests. Although their controls are not at "government scientist" level, I personally feel that they are good enough for me.

A filter's efficacy DO DECREASE as it gets clogged (as tested by these Beijing angmohs). http://particlecounting.tumblr.com/post/103916187666/hepa-longevity-test-day-200

So please change your particulate filter regularly if you want your device to remain effective.

For the el cheapos like me:

I have assembled a similar DIY air filter, but I could not bring myself to buy a particle counter to test it as a cheap one costs a few hundred bucks and my device costs much less than $50.

I'm still doing my homework on the filters - I've asked Thomas and his 1-inch thick filter is rated "above MERV 16". The best I have found locally is only MERV 11. In Singapore, high MERV numbers mean at least 2-inches and up (thicker filters have higher Pascal ratings ie more force needed to push air through). If anyone knows where to buy 1-inch thick filters rated higher than MERV 11, please PM me, thanks in advance.

P.S. I need 7 more points to praise others, kindly assist if you find this post helpful. TIA!

I just got a Dyson Pure Cool recently, and compared with my other low end Sharp purifier (with ionizer), the result is good. Unlike other purifier in the market, the unit function like a fan (i.e. the rotating head allows treated air to be blown into a larger area when it turns).

Price for the purifier is not cheap, but HEPA filter is surprisingly priced lower than say Sharp.

Just checked the Dyson pure cool at HN earlier, $899 plus one additional free filter, any better deal else where ?

Thanks

Know that the interest in air purifiers is dying off since the air is improving. But leaving this comment here for future views (2016 and beyond)

For the earlier mentioned 3M Air purifier. Think it works more like the 3M filtrete filter we use on our aircon, rather than a HEPA filter.

This is a quote from wussredxli on HWZ

I mean the 3M FAP02/01/03 uses this kind of electrostatic charged fibre filter. Same workings of the 3M Filtrete aircon filter.

The performance drops off with usage. HEPA maintains, more or less.

The same goes for the electrostatic charged plates. My first air purifier was a Trion electrostatic AP. In the 1990s. It's not new.

I supposed most of us have not heard of this particular brand of Air purifier - "Germitrol" ... in fact, they called it Air Sterilizer as it kill germs on top of just filtering the air. Is a local product which I understood to be used in many clinics & hospitals, so can be considered clinical/hospital grade type.

http://germitrol.com/roomSolution.php

My sis-in-law managed to get one for her family & another 1 for my in-law during the last major haze outbreak in 2013... Pretty bulky & need to mount on trolley if you don't intend to leave it on a specific location. Not the quite type but is only reasonable that higher performance equate higher noise bah... just like performance tyres right [laugh]

Saw this Germitrol machine when i was attending some external training. Mounted upside down on the ceiling at the centre of the classroom, like a LCD projector. The size is also about projector size.

I think i know the owner of Germitrol, an old friend of mine.

Here is the DIY air purifier (MERV 11 with carbon filter) I cobbled together for less than $50 (with enough filters to last slightly less than a year). A little noisy but it will do till I get a more powerful fan. If anyone needs more info, do PM me. Have a nice day y'all...

Haha, thanks for pointing that out, I didn't proofread my post... Though a bit of clobbering was indeed involved...

Here are the efficacy tests done by Thomas and gang...
