Heartlander Turbocharged September 18, 2013 Share September 18, 2013 (edited) I received a sms message yesterday from BM, SE asking me whether I wanted to change my Picnic since it left with 2-1/2 yrs....... The message stated that the COE going to increase further .... I was just , even the next 7 ~8 seaters I am looking for is either Previa or Alphard and both above S$220k ..... If you want 7~8 seater but cheap, not considering vans, the new Ssangyong Stavic just released in 2013 should fit the bill at < $160k. It comes with 7 or 9 seats, 5-speed merz engine, and has a 2L turbo diesel engine with annual road tax of only $2k. Better if your mileage is high. And the reviews in sgcarmart and Australia are really not bad. It is not that ugly externally, unlike its predecessor. And inside is really cavernous and really drooling if you need that space. Even if your Mileage is not too high, the savings from the Diesel will compensate for the road tax... That is the reason why you only see AD bring in Diesel for SUVs & Big CC Sedans... Diesel engines can also take more abuse compared to Petrol... But be prepared for a little more vibration & noise...thats the only trade off... The new 2013 think consumption about 10km/L as tested by local reviewer, and quite powerful due to high toque. Yes diesel is cheap but the engine won't last as long as petrol engine. Had been working with all sort of engines before and diesel engine after 5 ~ 6 years, maintenance is .... The situation is already very bad, how worse can it get? I don't get why everyone is rushing in now, thinking 80K is a steal. Diesel is also good for heavy vehicles - because of the low end torque, can get them moving faster... Of course, the trade off comes at the expense of top speed and / or acceleration on the expressway, but in Singapore (if most of your driving is here) do we really need to hit speeds that are so high? Even if you do go up North regularly, so long as can hit 120-130 comfortably you will be fine, sure, it's fun to travel at 170 or 180, and makes the trip a little faster, but it really doesn't make that much difference (and I speak from experience, I been up to KL and Ipoh many times, seldom go over 130 as wifey doesn't allow) - at 110-130 can comfortably reach Ipoh in 6 hours without the need to fill tank... ↡ Advertisement Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
