oleandero 5th Gear March 16, 2015 Share March 16, 2015 go spend some money and put up mosquito/insect screen on windows? btw, anybody has reviews on such screens? am thinking of installing them.
Yoongf 4th Gear March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 so far, this method has worked best for me. Use a 16inch table fan. Install those netting that is meant to prevent fingers from touching the blade through the cage. If the net holes are large, put those green mosquito net inside. After running the fan overnight, mosquitos will get sucked in the net and get trapped and somehow blown dead. Those mosquito zapper only works if the environment is cool and dead. The zapper must be the only attractive source of infrared. If placed next to a person, the mosquito prefers the human.

Or get the strongest most powerful fan (Dyson type also can), full blast, put the electric racquet on the output side of the fan with the power jammed on. Sit back and hear the piak piak and smell the burnt smell. I hate my area mozzies. Appear at 3-4am and bite. 1 solo mozzie, treat my delicate body like kuishinbo buffet! Bite once twice not enough, must tiong me 8-10 times from ear to toe until I wake up cursing and next day go to work with eye bags. I HATE MOZZIES.
13177 Hypersonic March 17, 2015 Share March 17, 2015 Agreed, thinking why mozzzie like to appear between 3-4am, and you cant really fall back to deep asleep after you got disturb by the mozzie!
Shoebox 3rd Gear March 18, 2015 Share March 18, 2015 (edited) My place got super a lot of mosquitoes. always come at 6pm and 4am like air force. Over the years i tried many ways and here are my results. 1. Effective, natural but expensive: Diffuse essential oils There are only 4 types of oil that effectively keep away mosquitoes. Depend on your preference on smell. Scientifically proven to keep away mosquitoes including dengue and malaria ones. Can try either Young Living, doTERRA, Native American Nutritionals. Must keep diffusing thru the night because effectiveness stops after about 1 hour max if u stop. So you apply at 10am, doesn't prevent the 4am invasion. a. Melaleuca leucadendra (cajeput oil) b. Melaleuca quinquenervia (broad-leaved paperbark, the paper bark tea tree or niaouli) c. Viola odorata (wood violet, sweet violet,English violet, common violet, florist's violet,or garden violet) d. Litsea cubeba (May Chang) 山苍树 2. Effective, cheap but chemical-based: Deet http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/Ultrathon/Products/ The spray is good. Last through the night. Can buy from guardian, unity, some ntucs. Some say not safe for kids. Not scientifically proven to cause harm. But if u wan, play safe, don't put on kids. Take note of effective duration. Low deet concentration can only last 1 hour. No use. It's the only chemical-based insect repellent that effectively keeps away dengue mosquitoes. 3. Effective, cheap but stinks: Mosquito coil It works, it's cheap, but it really stinks. Not only chase mosquitoes away, chase me away also. 4. Not so effective: All those other non-deet insect repellents and mosquito patches. Safer for kids than deet. But doesn't keep away dengue or malaria mosquitoes. Effectiveness not as long. May not prevent the 4am invasion. 5. Not effective for me: Mosquito zappers, carbon dioxide, infrared killers Mosquito is like air force. Hear the piak when they kena zap is very shiok. But what you see/kill is only a small fraction of all the mosquitoes in your area. So they will just keep coming. Lagi worse if you got the infrared or CO2 killers. Attract more only. Sometimes bite you before they die like kamikaze pilot. %$(%&@ 6. Totally useless and hoax: Ultrasonic mosquito repellent Scientifically proven to not work at all. Wasted my time and money. Edit: colour colour. Edited March 18, 2015 by Shoebox

Shoebox 3rd Gear March 18, 2015 Share March 18, 2015 ultrasonic insect repellent devices are useless? saw in DIY stores selling quite ex (cover bigger area can cost over $60) my home have small roaches since last 2 months. cant seems to exterminate them otally can only see 1 kill 1 No use whatsoever. I tried a few from the cheap to expensive. Waste of money. Scam. http://www.mosquito.org/faq#ultrasonic American Mosquito Control Association: At least 10 studies in the past 15 years have unanimously denounced ultrasonic devices as having no repellency value whatsoever. Yet, consumers flock in droves to hardware stores to purchase these contraptions. Why? The discovery that mosquitoes locate mates in mating swarms via wing beat frequency generated a great deal of research into ultrasound as a potential source of environmentally-friendly control. Yet, all attempts to affect mosquito behavior by ultrasound have fizzled, despite enormous amounts of money spent upon research and development. To be sure, the clever, high-tech, and imperceptible (by humans) use of ultrasound proved to be an exceedingly effective marketing tool for the repeller manufacturers. Homeowners were urged to buy ultrasonic repellers and the like to rid their houses of pests without the need to inhale "even one breath of poisonous spray". This appeal to the public's chemophobia, while extremely effective in diverting attention away from proven preventive and control measures (and toward their repeller products), has undermined an unbiased review of the subject by consumers desperate for a clean, effective, nonchemical means of mosquito control. Unfortunately, no such miracle cure exists. A pioneering study testing five different ultrasonic devices against four mosquito species convincingly demonstrated that ultrasound in the 20-70 kHz range used by these devices had no effect on reorienting flight by female mosquitoes either toward or away from human subjects. Additional tests have shown that sound generators capable of a wide range of frequencies were also ineffective in repelling mosquitoes. The fact is that these devices just do not work - marketing claims to the contrary.
