Count-Bracula Twincharged May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 There's a "long" time between the change of lanes and the Golf coming past... In the earlier part of the video, the Camera car was "kinda" road hogging - he was in the fast lane, but there is no indication there was anyone behind him. Given the lapse between switching lanes, and the golf coming past - I'm kinda doubtful he switched because of the golf... Kena high beamed? Maybe that is why cam car said lai liao lai liao if that is true from what was described somewhere above? ↡ Advertisement
Darryn Turbocharged May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 I think something might have transpired as the voice "lai liao lai liao" were heard before the overtaking. That also - Mind you, I wouldn't say "lai liao" but I would be commenting to passenger if I saw somebody coming at that speed
Ezfaun 3rd Gear May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Looking at the video, ego was what killed the driver. When I was karting, I was taught never to chiong a corner that comes directly at the end of a straight. Unless you are fully familiar with the course and its braking points and lines. If you lack any one of these, you will go straight off into the gravel, and in this case, a tree. If want chiong on the streets, ease up on entry and throttle out after passing the apex. Losing control at the entry will give you almost no chance to recover. Heng he didn't take the pax with him.

Atonchia Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Conti VW Golf suppose to be sturdy can sustain such damage. Same old question, what's the survival rate like if they are seated in a Volvo or even a BMW/Merc/Audi. Have seen a similar one 20yrs ago at Boundary rd, BMW 3 series, the tree was at the centre of divider and definitely 1/2 the girth size of this tree. Impact to driver door, car bend almost 90deg wrapped at tree. Unless a real tank or else tree ALWAYS win.
Nodtviedt 2nd Gear May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 I think very likely there was some incident before that. The way the driver say "lai liao lai liao" sounds very much like anticipation to me, and given the time lapse between his remark and the Golf passing at such speed, it must have been very far off when he said that, almost like he was looking out for him. Then again, innocent lives are lost and nobody wanted that to happen in the first place. But it should serve as a grim reminder to some of us drivers who tend to get worked up behind the wheels, not to act/react in spite on the roads. It cost lives. I think something might have transpired as the voice "lai liao lai liao" were heard before the overtaking.
Atonchia Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Wanbao says 2 casualties and 4 injured. That little Golf is over its weight limit bah, affecting the car's handling. Any car wheels on the chevron will also not get any grip. This is mostly the wheel has no grip at all, but overweight cause a bigger momentum at the rear so the car instead of on the tarmac, with a greater radius, went onto the chevron and clipped onto the kerb. Really lucky to the 4 survivors.

Atonchia Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 and ejacuate the driver / passengers in case of high speed crash!! (same as fighter jet pilots) btw, if the drivers really want to speed, for their own good, wear helmet / F1neck-restraint etc... at least there's some protections If eject from car then hit a motorcyclist how? Later driver/passengers and motorcyclist All die. So not really a good idea. Drive not more than 10km/hr to the designated speed limit is still safe depending on the condition tyres, sticking to the speed limit is the safest. Below 5-10km/h of the road speed limit when moderate rain. Very unlikely can buang and die.

Kangadrool Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 Many like to argue why our speed limits are so low. The speed limits are there for a reason and it's determined by road engineers taking into considerations of many factors. In fact, I think we need to reduce speed limits on certain stretch of roads like certain parts of Boon Lay Way. 10 years ago, 70 km/hr along this road is fine, but now it's too fast liao as too many traffic lights have sprouted up, new developments and housing sprouted up.......... Super7 Turbocharged May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 That is why it is important to brake before a corner. Not in the corner. Yes. Rule of thumb:- complete all the braking when the car is still going straight (ie before turning into the corner) otherwise the dynamic balance of the car will be upset and this may likely cause loss of control. You may 'trail brake' if you know how to do it while going thru the corner.
Karoon Turbocharged May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 i probably wouldn't have stopped if i'm the cam car. reason being, if i had witnessed it, shock would take over me which would mean i drive on autopilot for a few seconds as my mind registered what i just saw. By the time i come to my senses, i'd be way past the exit, and dangerous to consider any actions other than call 995. unless one is in emergency service and see this on a regular basis, or forced to stop due to obstruction, most would react the same.

Even if speed limit is lowered by 10% on any road....a driver who wants to speed at 170 can do it if its a long straight stretch and if he wanna cup corner at 130-140 if the speed limit is 10km/hr no one can stop him! Sometime dont know why....ego, thrills or just adrenaline.....we will do dangerous and stupid things on the road. Its worst if another driver decides to play along! That stretch of ECP is a very long and straight....and if daring enuff and the car has the power 200++ is easiy attainable. I have tried doing 200 on that stretch but on a bike....but never cup a corner at that ridiculous speed! Edited May 2, 2014 by Eviilusion
Atonchia Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 The most gory one is the accident that happen along changi coast road between a vios and a DHL truck. Those image forever attached to my memory. My friend drove past that morning and used the sugar cane machine as a comparison to despription the scenario There was one that I past by was at Lokyang Avenue, driver was driving a trailer full of H-beams, jammed brakes, most beams pierced through the trailer rear and front wind screens. The post mortem later found driver to be under influence of drugs. So not sure if suicide or really jammed brake because of car stopping in front.
Kangadrool Supersonic May 2, 2014 Share May 2, 2014 me too. Too shocked to do anything if it happened in front of your eyes. Leave it to the next few cars behind. The best the cam car could do is to get someone onboard to call for help. i probably wouldn't have stopped if i'm the cam car. reason being, if i had witnessed it, shock would take over me which would mean i drive on autopilot for a few seconds as my mind registered what i just saw.
