2014 X-Trail

I saw this guy moving out of the 3rd row awkwardly..somemore he is not tall or big size. Even if 2nd row push front for minimal leg space, the 3rd row really got no legroom for kids.. like really for kids below 7 yo.

Though it's priced at an attractive price.. i feel i might change it out sooner than expected if i buy it.

Just monitor and see first for now. [laugh]

Showroom was really packed until no SEs were free man...

Everyone was signing contract hahaha

Worst..the placed a hot red Xtrail with cream colour interior.. immediate turn off.. lol

Actually the Elgrand interior is much more comfy and soothing to the eyes.. the seats really plush and better quality but of course with a 30ish grand premium

Hey I'm sure throughout ones driving years you might have came across situation where u needed to ferry more ppl and you wished for once LTA cld have allowed ppl to squeeze into the boot for a short while. Xtrail serves this purpose of occasional seating arrangement. For such emergency need, comfortable is not a priority option.

As much as i wish to deny, i can't agree more with you that the outlook of xtrail needs to improve. Honesty breeds bluntness and bluntness hurts.. Hahaha.

X-Trail was priced at $127888 for a short while before TC increased it to $129888 a week before the latest COE bidding. The price of TC's other Cat B models remained unchanged.

Must have increased as they are likely to be short of stock. They did the same with QQ 1.2 a few months ago where they increased the price beyond the normal rate when they were low on stocks and the waiting list was long. Once the stocks arrived the price was readjusted back to where it should have been in line with the moving COE prices.

So those looking for more discounts for X-Trail (assuming unchanged COE prices)  should wait a bit longer  until the stocks get replenished.

hi Michaeleu

am actually also considering between the hitch installation and roof rack. I have found some one (a cycling enthuse) who had his car (not X-trail) installed with one, and he know the workshop that did it for him. attached photo from his car.

for me, I need to load up four bike (family of four), the hitch can only carry up to a max of 65kg, as for the roof rail can carry up to 100kg. only problem with roof rail is X-trail too high, difficult to mount the bicycle, however, this can be remove and use for another vehicle.

for your info.

Thanks gorilla-chow,

Any idea where is the workshop does the installation?

As for the roof rail, quite difficult to load the bikes, so my choice would be the Hitch type bike rack.

hi Michaeleu

oh the workshop is at kaki bukit (think auto bay - sorry I don't have the address cos I was guided there). I was at the shop just few days ago, cos the hitch they have is DIY type.

have some difficulty as with reference to the attached photo, additional welding is require to the left side (as it have hole but not nuts to secure the hitch trailer). AS advised by mechanic, welding to the car can be done but may damage original structure of the body frame. so need to reconsider (reselling may be a problem in future).

for your info

ps: I saw the link you post, have you got the hitch trailer? the price they quote is in usd?

Wrote to LTA to enquires about the installation of the Hitch Receiver. And got their replied.

"Bike Racks &amp Carriers:

We have, in-principle, no objections to the installation of a bicycle rack at the rear of a car for the purpose of transporting bicycles so long as the following safety requirements are complied with:

a) the bicycle rack installed should be suitable for vehicle;
(b) the installation of the bicycle rack and the securing of bicycles on the rack is carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations;
© no part of the bicycles shall project beyond the body or wheels of the vehicle;
(d) the transportation of the bicycles shall not impair the rear view of the driver, the vehicle number plate, the vehicle lighting systems or cause any danger to other road users.  (Note: If the vehicle number plate is obscured by the rack or the bicycles transported, then an additional number plate has to be hung at the rear of the vehicle); and
(e) rear view mirrors shall be fitted externally on the off-side and near-side of the vehicle to assist the driver to become aware of traffic at the rear and on both sides rearwards.

From your photograph, we have no objections to the hitch receiver so long as it is fitted below the rear bumper of the vehicle. Please note that the bicycle rack should be removed from the hitch receiver when it is not transporting any bicycle.

As the transportation of bicycles at the rear of the vehicle may have implications on road safety aspects, drivers are advised to drive the vehicle with due care and attention and with reasonable consideration for other road users. Enforcement action will be taken against drivers who convey their bicycles in a manner likely to cause danger, annoyance or obstruction to other road users."

I intend to purchase from Etrailer thro' Vpost. and get local workshop to install for me.

I got a quote from LS Dritribution and they quote me S$850 to S$1000+.

hi Michaeleu

yes the photo were taken from the undercarriage of my X-trail (taken a few days ago at the workshop). I seen the video from the link, even when you got the trailer hitch from Etrailer, modification is still require to the body-frame as no build-in nuts (on the left side) is there for securing the hitch trailer(as can seen from the photo i sent earlier). so the problem is to have nuts to secure the hitch trailer.

can check whether you place order through Etrailer already? am keen to get also if price is reasonable. the DIY one that the workshop quote for be is about 180 to 220 sing$. (not powder coated like the one from Etrailer).

So the LS quotation including the bicycle racks (am looking at Yakima brand) or just the hitch? maybe you can PM me and we can discuss further from there.

No, LS distribution quote is for the Hitch Reciver only. I'm looking at the YAKIMA RidgeBack 4.

I'll find time to check my undercarriage. I thot the hold had screw holes with threat.
