COE - May 2014

sorry that i jump the gun without saying .... IC is not an issue in the system if LTA BAN dealer to BID COE

when dealer is banned from bidding coe means all cars must be priced WITHOUT COE - by law

Maybe I'm not technically saavy but I still don't see and know how LTA can ban dealers (I sincerely hope they can ban them!!)from bidding since NRIC is being used for bidding!

I think Beng2 have given some possible suggestions on how to achieve this like ATM, Singpass, Internet Banking etc but I still can't quite picture how this can be achieved since what LTA system will see is the figure and who the bidder is (NRIC). Don't think the mode can help or can it?

I'm IT noob by the way so I stand corrected!

people who scrap their cars need to buy a new one too.

what about Singapore population growth at 3%.

coe prices will go above $100k in 2015 and 2016 when all the waiters see a lost cause and jump in.

Not everyone who scraps his car buys a new car. Some buy 2nd hand car, which means the COE from the scrapped car will be recycled. Some give up driving because it's better to take taxis than paying so much for a used car.

I know of someone who scraps her 10-year-old Altis and bought a 5-year-old car. Her COE will be recycled.

Whether buy new car or used car, you still have to be cash rich first, in order to pay for the downpayment. If not also no use.

Rich people have a greater sense of humour ma.

Maybe there is a dirty angle to it but I am not getting it as well, you probably need to stay in D10 landed, have more than 1 million in CPF, kids studying overseas and perhaps a few luxury cars to appreciate the subtlety of his swallow joke.

Precisely. Majority of owners with cars being scrapped will be getting used cars instead of new ones as long as loan rules are not relaxed and COE remains above 40k. That explains why used car dealers are reluctant to reduce their prices in view of this expectation.

seriously, people waiting for coe to drop are only kidding themselves.

next year from jan 2015 car population growth will be set to zero.

You are welcome to share your views but making "policy" statement like "next year from jan 2015 car population growth will be set to zero" as if it is forgone conclusion is a little low even for someone who can afford 70k COE, with or without 100% financing.

Anyway, demand, supply and equilibrium price, what is so difficult to understand?

Agreed, despite that coe dropped and new car price also reduced, but used car price still the same!

Like I always say, COE up-down-flat-crash is anyone's guess whether is it near or long term. As long as one is comfortable with the price, then just buy!

Nevertheless, just checked VW site and prices for Cat B have been revised upwards marginally even though COE for Cat B has decreased [dizzy] ! I guess they are anticipating the crowd this weekend and next....

No way to be 0%... imo

They need cars to create jam or slow flow then implement ERP or raise ERP price

If none of these happen the no excuse for ERP liao...

Kpi is always dollars & cent

~$2 billion from COE annually

~$3 billion from ERP/ ALS annually

If not enough cars then cannot achieve the above kpi liao

Turbocharged

Looks like many people are very hard up to own cars yah?

There should be a lot in this group who had, or will be having their very cheap $10-15K 2004 COEs just expired, or will be expiring soon.

They have "tasted" car ownership over the last 10 years and are now unwilling to let go of that luxury and shift to public transport.

Well, they have to incur $60-70K COE now. Just swallow lor!

Hehe

Since switching to Public Transport is mentioned, do you know even if only 50% of the current private cars users switch to public transport, the trains / buses will be paralysed becasue as it is now, the trains /buses are already struggling to cope?? So, it's futile and unrealistic to ask them to switch from cars to trains / buses until and unless the public transport system is up to it ie taking in more passengers.
