Kusje Supersonic August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 I think people get unhappy too easily. I don't see my father getting so unhappy last time when we were poor and living hand to mouth. Now our life is so much better than what my parents are getting, but people actually complain more, everything also want to voice out. Is is that your life so f**k up, or is it simply because we like to complain too much? We always say the strawberry generation are spoilt, but 1 thing I see even in a car forum(rich man), we are just as spoilt. I think the main difference is that while life was much tougher then, their conditions were always improving. Now we have reached the peak/stagnation of our potential so anything bad we will complain.
DavidOh 5th Gear August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 I think people get unhappy too easily. What is a complain? Usually it is a dissatisfaction of a service. Often it is either customer's expectation too high or service provider not performing as pledged. The newspaper and authorities on and off will keep score on how we perform in the world in terms of our MRT system which is fine but here is but a few of the issues: Compare to many countries our MRT rail line (metro line) is relative short compare to Hong Kong, China and New York, it is common knowledge the long you travel the higher the chance of breakdown. Unfortunately, the breakdown here is unbelievable, even for a new line. The other cities with MRT (metro line) have a larger population than Singapore but they don't experience or least sardine situation in many hours of the service. Many cities including Hong Kong metro line are built long before Singapore built their MRT system and yet they are able to cope better with the increasing ridership. All the past few years, the core business of MRT should be the passengers and not retail business. What happened? The ferrrari driving CEO got a golden handshake and off to lead another private company. Currently, the rail system in Singapore is barely or unable to cope with the current passenger load. How are they going to solve this issue? The station planning was flawed to begin with. We cant extend the train because the station platform has a fixed length. To add to the problem, we are expecting the population to increase to 6.9 million and we are heavily promoting tourism. The bus routes like all "business" in Singapore, making money ranks high above anything else. If you study the routes there are hardly any overlap routes with our MRT services. Furthermore many routes in the past that are loosing money are pulled out of service. Where are the solutions with regards to the trains being able to cope with the increase ridership? Building new lines just adds to the existing problem because they are bringing or connecting people to use the old lines to get to their destination. Busking in platform - platform already so crowded, people stop to admire and this decrease the flow - in fact may make the situation worse Traffic light - this must be the mother of all joke, by the time we see the traffic light isn't it a bit too late as we are already either near or in the station, most people die die will try to get into the train rather than walk out in the sun to take alternative transport like the bus. BTW who is going to pay for the traffic lights? The cost of service keeps rising which is fair but at the same time a certain level of service is expected. Look at our train station, the platform and train inside look like classified advertisement. It is all over the place, including the glass wall of the platform. They are good at generating revenue and it would be good to pass some savings to the passengers. Basically, if you don't want to complain, it is fine and good for you. If other people wants to complain because they feel they need to, and if you have said your peace, then let them be. We cant control how other people feel or think. So if you are happy with the situation here in Singapore, good for you. Why may yourself unhappy by being involved with these unhappy lot? It only makes you unhappy. Have a good weekend. Peace bro. Bystander50 5th Gear August 23, 2014 Share August 23, 2014 Govt never waste money wan Next thing they erect is an ERP for busy hours Thought the tapping of EZ link card is already another "toll". Next time they will implement, fare + $0,50 if you tap at 0730, $1 at 0800, $1.50 at 0830 ... etc, easy money, deduct immediately. Then LTA will review the rates every quarter.

Knoobie Supercharged August 25, 2014 Share August 25, 2014 I think the main difference is that while life was much tougher then, their conditions were always improving. Now we have reached the peak/stagnation of our potential so anything bad we will complain. that is precisely what I thought too. when there is more complain than before, is something not right and you should look into it? I do agree that however not all complain are reasonable. but what about those reasonable one?
Carnoob Supercharged August 25, 2014 Author Share August 25, 2014 (edited) We are forgetting, they also claimed that majority are happy except for the vocally outspoken "small", minority. Well, ppl dun speak / complaint not because they are happy, they are also waiting to see what are the improvements done. We are the vocal lot here in MCF, if anyone is happy with current situation, good for you. But I'm not happy with the "improvements". Period.
