Going by your theory, you are implying that human beings are incapable of thinking and making decisions for themselves, and need to be told what to do.

Is that what you are? Are you incapable of thinking for yourself and need to be told what to do?

  • I VISITED Japan's Kyushu island recently and observed a lack of public litter bins, yet there was hardly any rubbish on the streets. The cleanliness can be attributed to the self-discipline of the Japanese.
  • In contrast, Singapore's reputation for cleanliness is a result of the hard work of cleaners.
  • Also, the people I met in Japan seemed more considerate and friendly than those in other countries, including Singapore. Drivers there were more willing to give way, and people would not speak loudly or disturb others in public.
  • Moreover, I experienced excellent service standards there. I wonder if Singaporeans can ever achieve such levels of graciousness

Take littering for example.

Do u litter?

If yes, change.

If no, do you encourage others not to litter?

The obvious answer is a big NO!

Singapore is no longer homogenous, with some of the best and a lot of the worst from other countries already here.

Even if you train the current lot of imports to behave, more new imports will come to mess up the place.

Give everyone a gun, automatic all will become gracious and polite.

I wouldn't call the USofA gracious and polite....

Is it really the fault of foreigners this time?...

Depends on what you wanna compare. If AV, sure they are the best !! :D

On gracious, I think can't compare like this, Cos different culture, different location and situation too.

Looks like we need a dedicated thread to discuss the forte of the Jap, LOL :-)

Also, are you saying some cultures are inherently less gracious than others, possible?

Can't say that too.

Basically all cultures are different so its not possible to compare them completely.

Singapore and Stinkoprean will nver come to this stage, whereby majority are multi-racial society, 50/1 will hardly stop to help those in needs, cultural differences and social religious may hinder us to move-forward, we like to see. watch and stare to affirm the actual scene, take pic, camera and share on social media, ( first to share and last to help syndrome )

Japanese can pick up own litters after a football game or help sweep the floor and protest together for harmony, peacefully and gracefully, here we dare not even open our mouth, all kuay kuay one. only kpku on Intagram, twitter, fb and lastly dropbox

leakage

Japanese are very good In adopting good things from all over the world but still remain monolingual.

Many have a utopian mindset.

I took have much difficulty to find a litter bin on the streets of Tokyo, walk n walk till I give up and quietly left my pet bottle at some alley.

This bcz we have a litter every 100m or less.

The Jap won't mind bring their litter home, or find a trash bin in convenient shops.

Obsessions with cleanlineas, formalitles, politeness, disciplines, and some say AVness, are their trademarks?!

When there's no monetary rewards, not many people will be bothered to make extra efforts to be gracious regardless how many campaigns are made, no? The title of Miss or Mr Gracious has little appeal, unfortunately.
