Criminally negligent loading of the flat bed though, could have been so much worse. I hope they are fined heavily for this.

 

The lady driver was very very lucky. A little faster the whole car could have been flatten.

Fine is not enough in this case - a few weeks in jail will be needed to get the whole transportation industry to buck up. Today it is steel plates, another day pipes, and most of the time rocks and even cement. It is happening too frequently all over Singapore.

It seems to me she hardly slowed at all on account of the lorry. I wouldn't proceed as normal round that bend with the information she had.

The canvas on the back of a lorry that was driving along PIE Tuas, at Bukit Batok Flyover flew off and hit a motorcyclist causing him to lose control and fall yesterday (Nov 12) at 4.50pm.

 

It was raining heavily during the time of the accident.

 

Stomper Ramasamy sent in footage from his cars black box of the accident.

 

The Stomper said:

 

The inconsiderate lorry driver had been travelling at high speed on the second lane of the expressway.

 

Under traffic rules, all heavy vehicles are required to travel on the left lane of expressways.

 

He added,

 

The lorry driver failed to stop and render aid after the accident.

 

The bike rider didnt suffer any serious injury, and escaped with only a few cuts and bruises.

 

This accident could potentially have had been fatal, if the biker had not reduced his speed just seconds before being hit by the canvas.

 

The Police would like to request for the person who had witnessed and uploaded the video to come forward to lodge a police report at any Neighbourhood Police Centre (NPC) or Neighbourhood Police Post (NPP) so that the Traffic Police can look into the matter.

 

Alternatively, they can also report the traffic violation online via the E-FEEDBACK ON ROAD USERS portal on SPFs website at http://www.spf.gov.sg/epc/index.html.

Hang on a minute, someone posted that defensive driving saved her. I said it looked more like luck to me, she was slowing for the bend as normal and didn't appear to take the lorry into account at all. That's what I see in the video, if she did actually brake because of the lorry it was only at the very last moment.

 

This does not mean I blame her in any way for what happened - 95 out of 100 drivers would do the same - but there are more experienced drivers out there who would have slowed well before passing the lorry in identical circumstances. Sorry if that sounds weird to some.

I agree, especially when the lorry was so close to the centre dividing line.

 

Okay maybe we wouldn't have anticipated the load dropping off, but we might have guessed that the lorry was gonna eat into the oncoming lane so we would have slowed down (even more). And in doing so that would have saved the lady.
