I was told to use only running water but I still wash it with soap once a week. I only use the fabric len cleaner to dry my lens no need. just 40-50 degree water enough. at most just use your wet fingers to help remove a bit of grease. I've never used soap on my glasses for >20 years. I'm still wondering whether i should change the lenses (zeiss, coating lost for a few months, discolored) on my old titanium frame which I bought in 2005/2006. Or just try getting from Owndays or what. Anyone tried owndays before? Edited April 18, 2021 by Lala81

But Lenskart promo is no one can fight, recently got two pairs prescription glasses for $68. i have been wearing one pair for half a year and wash with soap daily. No degradation yet. If I fall and break this one, heart no pain. Edited April 18, 2021 by Ender

Human fingerprints or skin oil is very easy to remove one. But u need a tap connected to the heater. Shower water is not hot enough usually. unless at work only have cold water running tap, then LL. If u wash your glasses once or twice daily, the grease buildup is lesser, so u can get by using your fingers to disturb the oil film. i use UIC detergent liquid to clean my CPAP mask so yes, u need that to remove left on oils/grease. But then I'm bit used to cooking, so though I'm not a cook/chef, my heat tolerance of water is higher than others. I don't feel burnt so easily. My wife and kids always complain when i don't switch the tap back.

I haven't try Owndays, it is not the spectacle but the lens that is important. I heard they don't have the range of lens like what Zeiss and Varilux have to offer. Then the guy told me that my eyes were screwed. I asked him how why then I was able to see with the pair I was then wearing. No answer. He sucked thumb. Then he suggested I had cataract. Really knn. GP checked. No cataract. Say I was then too young to develop it. So I went to kwong shin for the first time. Prescribed swee swee. Apparently I have dunno what prism and focal problem which the own days guy don't even know about. Still wearing that pair now for running as the Oakley grip is very good. Now into my 3rd pair with kwong shin. But my first pair of progressive lenses. Damn difficult to get used to it. No confidence driving in it so switched back to old pair just for driving. Kxbc Turbocharged April 18, 2021 Share April 18, 2021 (edited) My last pair was zeiss lens. 4 years old and washed with soap once a day using normal temperature tap water. Then dry with spectacle cloth. Coating still swee swee. Lens still very clear. No scratches. Current pair also zeiss. But damn expensive. Kangadrool Supersonic April 18, 2021 Share April 18, 2021 I never bother with plastic lens. Get real glass lens if you still can get hold of them. They lasted more than 10 years without scratches and coating dropping off even if clean with tissue and t-shirt. It's not heavy and it's not that easy to break as what the spectacle shops would like you to believe. Tip of getting glass lens is (i) get the smallest possible frame that fit you well (ii) avoid rectangular frame (unless you can get lens height <30mm). Instead try to get round frame if you can pull it off. The beauty of small round frame/lens is that it is very much difficult to break (look at airplane windows) and you will get very minimal back light distortions and reflections (your eyes will thank you).

Just be aware with glass, it's dangerous to fall down with it, the glass lens will shatter and there's a risk of pieces of glasses flying into the eyes. i had 2 bad fall last year while running. Both times, my lens cracked but did not shatter coz i think they are polycarbonate.

My wife was prescribed a pair of spectacles with wrong reading of the degrees at Ownd*ys Westg*te. They redid the eye test and discovered first set of reading was wrong!! Given a replacement but the wait extended by another week, so waited 2 weeks in total. Was told initially can make replacement once if not satisfied with spectacles but they said replacement for the wrong prescription due to their fault counted as one. Sheeesh! Never go back there although colleague recommended saying very cheap, $200++ can make spectacles for old flower eyes with the usual coatings. Rubbish lah! Ownday eye check cannot make it, coz mostly the staff are youngster that lack in experience. When I made my glasses, I used back my old glasses prescription which they measured from my existing pair. Likewise from Lenskart, dont trust those youngsters to measure.

Plastic lenses scratch easily, even when cleaned with tissue paper. Ah peh like me fall down land on backside one, no worries 😂 ↡ Advertisement
