Antonee 6th Gear April 12, 2015 Author Share April 12, 2015 Off track a bit, for those drivers with coe going to expire soon, do you remove and swap with others on the parts such as like tyres, accessories, headlight or even leather seats? I saw in some forum these ppl really go and trade or at least sell away those parts which are still new (good) to go. Nabei like this also can earn. flashbang Turbocharged April 12, 2015 Share April 12, 2015 B is pretty bad. Was told not to accept other than A from STA. My fren used to go DKC to zhng his rx8. Not sure if it is still around anot. You can try google the details. Only new cars can get A from STA - <2-3 years old. For the rest B is pretty much the best grade. Tyres x4, headlights, leather seats should be able to fetch $100 each, that's extra $300 for you to go down and meet the person. Labour is usually covered by the buyer. Think of it like organ transplant, "harvesting" various parts (now I read even the Xiao di di also can transplant) to keep other still-got-COE-life cars going, saving some $$ and saving the earth. Why not? I have Volvo parts for swap/dekit, anyone interested? Car scrapping very soon!

Dragonl 1st Gear April 15, 2015 Share April 15, 2015 Bamms, Was a roadworthiness test carried out by STA when the agent sent it for inspection. I believe most agent only test on package A. Here is the link to show 3 type of package from STA. http://www.stai.com.sg/service2.php. Basic comphrensive inspection only detect obvious flaw and physical defects. Seepages and leakages takes time to built up. If dealer has been diligent enough, most of this flaws will be touch up before the inspection. Seepages and leakages are detectable after a prolong period. Roadworthiness test will test the gearbox, steering rod, brake, radiator and engine of its conditions when on the road. In short, if it is safe enough to drive the car. Like any workshop, you visit often you become friends, just like agent going to a inspection centre. Complacency may take place but that doesn't mean inspection centres are not doing their job properly. Lastly, rule of thumb when you get a 2nd hand car. Go to a reliable workshop to check brake pad & rotor, timing belt, fan belt. Change all the oil - engine oil, brake fluid, transmission oil and coolant. If you are not sure where to find a workshop, go to those model specified forum.
Antonee 6th Gear April 21, 2015 Author Share April 21, 2015 After much consideration and car shopping, i decided to trade in my lancer to intergra 2.0 which left one year 3 mths coe. Nevertheless, the parf value of the integra is $11k+. Also i would like to know usually used car dealer have to earn admin fee of $500? Anybody able to advise what should i sell of my lancer parts ? But not those major ones like throttle body etc.
Andyngps 5th Gear April 21, 2015 Share April 21, 2015 (edited) I will still send the car to a trustworthy workshop after my own individual inspection. On my own, I will first go online for days to find out the common problems of the model I intend to buy. Find out what are the visible and audible signs if these problems exist. 2nd, I will physically check for leakage of any fluid from the engine bay, followed by signs of serious accident. The test drive should also reveal something if there are problems. The mkt rate for BnB jap cars are in the 11-13k annual dep range. Ridiculous if you ask me, but it is still the best sellling cars in the preown mkt as buyers cannot move away from the mindset that it is better. Jap cars may or may not be more reliable depending on the previous owners I feel. Just in the past month, I already see 6 toyota breaking down on the road and coincidentally all of them are vios that were more than 7 years old. Dark_flan 2nd Gear April 22, 2015 Share April 22, 2015 Jap cars may or may not be more reliable depending on the previous owners I feel. Just in the past month, I already see 6 toyota breaking down on the road and coincidentally all of them are vios that were more than 7 years old. Yeah pretty worrying as some owners only know how to drive but do not know how to maintain. I take care of mine and service regularly and doing self maintenance. Perhaps that's why my ride never fail me through its 9.5 yrs of lifetime, never done more than $2k of repair works since brand new. Quite surprised that it still runs like new and no funny noises like some similar age cars like mine. A Toyota bah. ↡ Advertisement
