I noticed at the speed between 80 to 90 the rpm is less than 2K when it's on "D" mode. But at the speed around 80 - 90, the rpm is slightly above 2K when it's on "S" mode (paddle shift 5th gear)

Is this normal?

Yes, that is called "fuel savings". High speed lower RPM is the way to go

Pardon me if I did not phased my question properly.

What I mean is is it normal for the rpm under "S" mode to be much higher as compared to under "D" mode?

Yes. S mode RPM is higher. it is normal

Hi all what's your opinion of using 10w30/40 instead of the usual or commonly used/recommended 5w30/40?

actually the value infront of the w is not really applicable to sg context. more importantly is the weight of the oil which is 30 or 40.

older cars would recommend to use 40 as it provides more protection to the engine.

So wat is viscosity of 10 or even 15 being used for & why are they still made available if 5 is an all rounder?

Care to explain why in S mode rev is higher?

S mode is Sports Mode. This mode disregards fuel savings so it will rev higher in order to hit the speed you want.

D mode is Drive Mode. This is the regualar mode that will save fuel so pickup speed is controlled.

Low rev = more fuel savings = slower time to reach deaired speed

High rev = lesser fuel savings = faster time to reach desired speed

it seems you have not directly answer why S mode uses more fuel given the same speed when traveling at D mode.

It seems that you dun understand the answer.

High rev = more fuel

Lower rev = less fuel

Then again, there wasn't a question about fuel...

It is many who does not understand how a car engine and GB works.

Never mind.......

google is your best friend. do a search and read up.

http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a53/1266801/

Thanks for the link but it doesn't mention anything about why the choice of one over the other in term of viscosity of 5 & 10.

Both can be used for cold startup at ambience temperature below 0℃ but we don't have winter here & the lowest ambience temperature is around 23~24℃. So I couldn't understand why most motorists & workshops use 5 & rarely with 10?

I understand 10 is thicker & could put some drag on the engine. The temperature of our roads can get as high as 36℃ at times. And with such high ambience temperature, does 5 thin out much more than 10 & thus makes the latter able to provide a better protection over the other?

I am interested to know why does S mode rev higher compared to D mode with respect to same gear number

Is there a different set of gear?
