But I don't think if u write supernatural stuff on gce"o" level the marker in UK going to give u good points too.

I personally think it is harder to write compo which is not supernatural.

Btw he put it in psle ??

Don't think can do that for o-level.

Side track a bit, I a bit disappointed with school system also. Some things they teach and kid don't understand, and we have to teach ourselves again. And other things they don't teach, and expect the kid to know\learn from us. Homework often we have to do together. Tiring man.

That's the same problem 30 years ago.. nothings changed..

I thought they have teach less learn more nonsense??

all that MOE revamp?

and our Math and science textbooks are used in elite schools in other countries..

I guess its not rounded education. just the MSET core.

anyway don't rely on school to teach anything. more important to impart values and how to self learn.

going to school was a waste of time for me

Don't think any school in world would encourage sick plot with a car slamming into the boy and he turned ketchup. This type of dark creativity maybe in later part of her life, but not when they are young..

No I got a score quite well for writting a boy committed sucide.

It's how ur story link. If out of no where u got superman fly in. Sure won't score well.

Is one of the school that everyone say is good school. But I don't find it good in the sense that some things the school don't teach, and expect the kid to know. Or the parents to teach. Like some words which they haven't teach, and expect the kid to be able to read a passage with those words in it. Same for Chinese. Then I have to explain those words that were not taught yet. Shouldn't the school teach the words first then expect the kids to read the passage containing those words ? So my kid keep asking me the meaning of this word that word.

Nah -

She can write whatever she wants...

Supernatural, outlandish, whatever -

I just wanted her to engage her imagination and surprise the teacher ...

Not follow some trite moral formula

Kid is being naughty + kid does something due to misbehaviour that can cause injury / harm + kid gets saved just in time and learns lesson....

It's putting the story into such a confined box - bring in some element from your imagination .....

Maybe a metorite slams into the grandmother or maybe Baymax, having run out of jet fuel saves the kid just in time, maybe the kid learns he's a magacian, maybe we find out the car was whatever else...

Maybe can pm me.😂😂

My daughter also in "one of the good school" don't have this problem.

btw some kindergarten follow moe curriculum. So if parents that go to kindergarten that don't follow moe curriculum then gg Liao cause parents have to teach themselves.

If she want to do that. She have to know how to slowly introduce these factors in. Rather then suddenly superman appear.

TS context is not on good scoring, but why local school can't accept the shocking of teacher and not following "moral" standard type of compo.

How old is the kid?

If anything beyond about P2 I would expect kid to ask, to use dictionary, to work out from context - that is the act of learning, or if you prefer, teaching the kid how to learn, not teaching the kid what to learn.

ESPECIALLY - reading for context - working out from the words around it, the sentence, how is it used...

eg: Brooding on the death of his godfather, a sense of melancholia overtook Harry...

You don't have to know the meaning of melancholia exactly to get a sense of what it means from putting yourself in the situation - even if it is still advisable to look it up and check the nuance / confirm

You are right. I agree with the part on self-learning She is p1 btw, the older one is doing better in this sense.

Actually, since you brought this up... the topic on creativity became an "argument" between wifey and me... I know the school wants conformity and wifey believes in creativity...

So I shared, creativity is used during "enrichment" class e.g. drawing, music, swimming but school can't accept simply because teachers are giving guidelines and as typical Singaporeans, NO TEACHER dares to STEP OUT and address it... SPEAK OUT and SHOUT hey the schools are killing creativity... The good point is we created "Robotic" citizens - move when you are told, write only facts.

Back to the argument, in the end we compromise... study conformity in school and have fun with creativity at home [thumbsup]

yeah...

teaching the kids to conform to the formula already --- that's what hits me the most...

I find the moralising in all of the picture compositions quite heavy handed, but that one can roll with the punches - so long as they don't mark down the kid that takes the contrary position
