My "baggage" which you mentioned perhaps it comes from personal experience, that few FTs (be it single or married to local girl), often have opinions which on its own there is nothing wrong. But what is difficult to understand is they often criticise our local system for every small thing and that begs the question why are they here or why not move back or how critical are they with their own native country's system.

Learning to write in context and not being over imaginative has a purpose to serve. In fact, most of us will rely more on writing within context, than being a creative writer.

Another question is the current education system able to keep up with what is demanded of 1st world workers 15-20 years later.

Essentially where information is readily available on the internet,

I've been reading some books about this. Don't agree with some of the methods, but it does have major implications for our children.

Especially if schools cannot teach this.

... Grandma act instinctively to push the boy out of the way, and get run over by the car instead. Grandma injured and ferried off to hospital. Boy regrets his actions and repents. Not sure though if I have the vocab to actually write that...

You could even add a poetic bent in a story set this year: "It was the Year of the Sheep, but it simply wasn't the sheep's day!" [laugh]

That's why our education emphaize on context. This is what happen when they get too 'creative'.

Chinese after simplification is still not as "modern" as English. There are no simple rules.

Why you mocking at people with PG card ? Write fan ti means chauvinist ? What stereotype ?

Already told you I wrote traditional Chinese during primary school without even knowing the difference. They were all Chinese to me, and teachers didn't bother to educate me on the difference. Now I read/write both Simplified, Traditional as well as Japanese kanji and kana, learnt from society university and talking to experienced scholars.

Many jian ti words were taken from "cao shu", or cursive scripts used in ancient Chinese calligraphy. They have their place in history other than to improve literacy. The Japanese were the first to adopt it to simplify Kanji especially after Meiji restoration, and ROC/PRC learnt from the Japanese adaptation after they saw the rapid progress in a small island country over just a few decades.

Just write cursive... they won't know the difference.. LOL

Dear William,

I believe some of us can relate to your thoughts, and your feelings.

You have to realize that some of us are monkeys, fishes and border collies. You watch out for Bavarian. That one polar bear, look cute but apex predator ok.

Many ways to cut a cake.

You have to assess your approach, evaluate your decision and cost. Then plan for patch solutions and the patch solutions for your patch solutions.

William you know what you did, you went and pinch the kiwi sheep in the fluffy rear end. Fluffly rears dont like to be pinched by mistake. This border collie going why you do that?

Be nice to sheep. They are smart and naturally white and pink.

What you wrote resembles what those hick rednecks presented. If you respect him, dont use the alphabet soup or his name in vain.

Just get your brain into what is known as alpha state. If you can do that, you are on their frequency.

They are very loud you know.

Wah calligraphy class...i going priapic.

It is lun shu by Wang Xizhi.

Go wiki for Analects by confucius...

Why so hard one. How am i going to home. Jialat liao....

Can't agree more on this. Context is very Important in essay writing. There are parameters in the marking scheme to reduce ambiguity and guide children on logical reasoning. This is a stepping stone before moving them up to critical writing.

That said, there's still allowance for creativity between those lines if the writer is up to it.

To be fair, the system today allows more room for creativity. There are different routes for different inclinations, like sutd, sota, sst and the likes.

I wouldn't be disappointed with the system just because of an essay, nor use the essay to define the system. Rather, we can take this chance to teach our children that there are times they will have to work within constraints and guidelines.
