Mine specifically says free servicing is at 1k and 10k. There's no mention of 3 free servicings.

MI changed their inhouse servicing in about Feb/Mar.

Removed the every 5k.

Now is only 1K and every 10k.

Did save their old servicing interval brochures but lazy to post it here.

Hypersonic

MI has omitted the 5k servicing. So in effect, it's actually only 2 free servicings. I'm not sure why, but it could be cos they've sold too many cars and can't cope with the number of cars being brought in for servicing at 5k. I'm actually not sure if the 5k servicing is even necessary. Maybe someone here might know how important it is to service at the 5k mark if you're using synthetic oil.

Most conti 1st servicing are at 15k.

Yes, I think the workshop probably cannot cope with the increase in population. Having said that, I think the 5K servicing was more a sales gimmick than a neccessity. It makes the company stand above another - you buy our cars - 3 free servicing, you buy the other brand, only 2 free servicing. The servicing doesn't cost much, just oil, filter and a car wash. To the company, the labour is already a sunk cost. It also gives the opportunity for the SA to up sell services like sound proofing, engine flushes etc.

Is it a deliberate effort to make new engine have issues later? Even if Ivan afford a conti that states first serving at 15k.. I would just go outside at 1-2k to change the virgin oil out.

It's because some of them undergo a sort of factory run-in at manufacturing, meaning there is no "virgin oil".

Is it needed or is it a placebo effect to calm yourself?

As a mechanic from Mercedes-Benz and Smart I can confirm that you do NOT need to change the oil before the 15.000 km mark.. Our MB drives up to 25.000 km on the first oil, and rarely consume any in the process.. For Smarts the first service is also fixed at 15.000 km :-) so no worries!

No need. Also the oil your engine has when it comes from the factory is the best oil it will see in its lifetime.

The old days of running engines in for the first 1000KM and oil change are no longer applicable.

As they say up to you. After the first couple of services. In my company car they change the oil every 10000Kms now as per service instructions. In my own cars I change the oil every 6 months or 3000 - 5000 Kms.

Me too !!

Unless someone can confirmed already synthetic eo bring used by factory, I would want to change out typical mineral eo used by factory for cost reduction especially if for turbo charged fxt.

Typical dry engine specification is 7l+ vs typical 4l+ or 3l of factory eo that I will change out asap if I cannot confirm synthetic eo else have this 3l of mineral eo will degenerate to sludge if left to 10k interval.

For my qashqai 1.2l turbo, I changed to synthetic eo at 1k, 5k and 10k before the 10k interval to 20k. Same $ especially using duo reward sgd50 or just buy your old preferred synthetic eo.

Cheers.

Anyone can confirm if MI has stopped installing cellink b battery for in car dashcam?

Heard from my SE that they have stopped installing it due to some electrical surge reason and draining our forester battery.

In fact, now they don't do hard wire for parking surveillance mode.

For 5k km yes it's a placebo. But 25k km on a change is pushing it. Likely will sludge unless you stick to Mercedes approved oils with 229.5. Even then there are many cases sludging in BMWs with long oil change intervals.

Does anyone has fogging problems with their rear light cover and FM radio issue? The FM radio music lacks of clarity, sometimes clear, sometimes blur. Happen on and off thru out the journey. I wasted 30mins of my time talking to the maint manager who keeps telling me that it's a norm across all subaru cars. I'm definitely not the first to complain but seems like there's nothing he can do. Anyone can advise?
