Hi bros,

Finally received the IAG AOS and can looks top quality but strange that only cable ties are used with exception of coolant hoses with clamps.

Will be getting bro Orix's lobang on Orbit 316 clamps to replace them and the peovided cable ties for actual installation hopefully this weekend at BKS .. still waiting for IAG to advise if coolant piping needes for hot Singapore but will either call them later this week or just install it since only logical to do so.

Cheers.

Richard

Looks great! Looking forward to see how much oil it will capture in time to come. Keep us posted yeah Richard

Hey Orixy,

Unlike oil catch tanks, AOS will not be able to see how much oil it captures since it is recircled back ... betta AOS have coolant pipings to achieve engine temperature asap to prevent water condension when hot air with however amount of oil meets colder .. especially in cold countries.

Think the only check is if intake hose is oily and perhaps the reduction or elimination of exhaust smoke seen when I first had the forester fxt which I had never seen other cars unless with already serious oil leakage issues.

Unfortunately, initial 1.5 yrs of qashqai 1.2l turbo with known oil leakage due to failing piston rings and actual clearing of about 100 cc of captured oil every 5k km and sometimes brownish sludge of captured eo and water mixture made me take this AOS route to keep this DIT engine running as clean as possible. Overhaul and replacement of piston rings of my qashqai under warranty 9 months by nice TanChong is now much better with >1/5 or >20cc capture oil in the mishimoto baffled compaxt OCT every 5k km but oil is still there for sure which make me leave the OCT installed.

Btw, if using OCT, we need 2 in our fxt which dynamic workshops offers at sgd480 which you can buy off ebay at >>200 for 2 units.

Cheers.

Hi Richard, thanks for explaining AOS vs OCT! Didnt realise they are different things altogether.

I did some research and noted the FXT has a oil catch tank at the bottom of the turbo. The PCV line is connected into this factory OCT and there are instructions in the service manual on how to empty it periodically.

I'm sure aftermarket parts makers like Mishimoto have examined this and decided 2 extra OCTs can still be installed on top of the factory OCT. I'm just wondering the mechanics of this factory OCT and if it really "catches" oil like its name suggests.

Hi Orixy,

Indeed KC highlighted the same on our fxt having this OCT indicated in the service manual but one bro pointed us to subaruforum usa with members there clarifying that that OCT for oil sump and nothing to do with intake/crank case topic that this AOS or OCT tries to address.

Hi Orixy,

Not sure why since intermittently but probably due to excessive leak before overhaul to change out improved piston rings ... you can see oil captured is not "clean" oil in my qashqai  ... it is brownish and diluted i.e. already mixed with water and imagine this going back to the recirculated engine oil since AOS does that .... lol !!

Hope heated by coolant will alleviate if not prevent this issue especially without excessive leak of forester fxt.

Cheers,

Richard

Hi fxt bros,

IAG recommended to run the coolant lines for mentioned added functionality as intended even for tropical countries as planned and expected.

Cheers.

i would think FXT calipers are bigger than FNA cos rotor size of FNA confirmed smaller. probably similar to XV/Impreza since same powerband.

the FXT calipers/rotors are even bigger than my good'ol Legacy BL ones...

Hi Sarion,

Noted and thanks ! Strange that info on the actual rotor sizes of fna and fxt is quite lacking as well as fxt calipers/rotors still a bit lacking for the power and perhaps higher speed.  Past experience tells me that Honda has always has the best oversized calipers/rotors among the typical mid/premium Jap cars.

Only managed to find USDM fxt's from Subaru USA on front=12.4" and front=10.9" or 315mm and 277mm respectively which I am not sure if same as our JDM ones.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Forester 2.0XT’s brake rotors are larger than those on the 500L:

Forester 2.0XT

500L

Front Rotors

12.4 inches

12 inches

Rear Rotors

10.9 inches

10.4 inches

The Forester 2.0XT’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the 500L are solid, not vented.

The Forester stops much shorter than the 500L:

Forester

500L

70 to 0 MPH

166 feet

169 feet

Car and Driver

60 to 0 MPH

111 feet

123 feet

Suggest to contact seller to check it out...

Sounds nice of the seller to ship without receiving payment first.

At times, it might be due to bank transactions delay.

Wow that looks like a lot of oil and vapour! What was the mileage travelled when this was taken out?

I also see your post on running coolant into the AOS. Looks good but not an easy job to get it installed.

haha... if debit twice, just bring it up to your credit card company. I believe that they will assist to resolve.

Not to mention, you have e-receipt to justify your claim.

Hi Orixy,

It is about 100cc for every 5k km before overhaul and change of corrected piston rings of then 1.5 yr old 1.2L Qashai some 9 months ago ... it is a compact baffled mishimoto OCT.  It is now an acceptable <20cc for every 5k km and TanChong was great to have handled this issue swee swee hence I always prefer ADs for all my cars except Estima that Borneo din bring it but at the least I got it from Richburg with then privileged access to Borneo for any big shit work to be done.

Yes, imagine if I din have the mishimoto OCT and 40k km travelled then or this additional 800 cc or 0.8 litre of oil to what we cannot prevent into intake and combustion chamber ... yucks !!!

More importantly for my current effort on AOS which recirculates captured oil back to the engine, it shows moisture trapped to form this brownish sludge even in nice hot tropical Singapore which I believe reinforces IAG's respond on use of coolant piping features which is already done by many in USA and should not be a big deal for our locally famed BKS ... keke !

Cheers,

Richard
