Anyone knows Lexus new 8 speed Direct Shift Transmission, is it a dual clutch?

Lexus usually mates CVT with their engines.

The only automated clutch used by their mainstream car is the LFA, which is a single clutch system

I am sure there are luckier owners lurking around this forum and of course there are others who have encountered issues with their vehicles.

I would not advocate anyone taking any form of calculated risk. If one is really interested in the VW, get the 2.0l or 6 speed wet clutch models only. Forget about the rest.

Appreciate ur being open about this. Guess i cant overcome the uncertainty after all these discussions. tks for the elaboration Bro.

If only real life is as easy...as writing those words.

Good news is it would have been covered under its 5 year warranty period (at least that's what I hoped in your case)- and its gives you another lease of life till the next changeout some years down . (Colleague sold his touran as his gb was getting noisy and before the 5th year warranty expires). Edited by EricChan

Supposedly Volvo uses the same 8-speed Aisin conventional automatic as Lexus, which thus implies that the 8-speed gearboxes used by latest Lexuses are not dual-clutches. I've never heard of the Lexus gearboxes being referred to as "Direct Shift Transmission".

Pls refer to attached. There is not much write up about this new transmission.

The easiest way is not to drive. No cars, no issue n no worries. Worries come when u want more.

I suddenly find it hard to believe the extent of discussion n due diligence needed over buyin something in excess of 100k. And we're not into discussing the features n specs.

Before joining MCF, nvr really read up so much when buyin one. Perhaps I went for the more common jap models.

Mine is covered under the 5 year warranty with VCS.

Same here too. When I bought my Jetta from Das Welt Auto, it came with a letter with 2 clauses, first stating the car is covered with 3 year warranty from date of registration, i.e. Dec 2013 and the second clause the gearbox covered with 5 years warranty from date of registration.

So far no issues and enjoying the 'snappy' gear shifting feel of the DSG.

Am driving my car since 2008, no gearbox issues. Car is equipped with the DQ250 6spd DSG, clocked about 143k so far. DSG oil and filter changed every 55k km, no trashing of car like Yuan, most of the time around 2000rpm. Max torque is achieved at around 2100 rpm, so no need to step on the gas pedal so hard [laugh]

I read the technical doc of the new VW EA211 Tsi engine. It said it can achieve the same performance (and upto 20% better FC) with just a single turbo as compared to previous generation twin-charge Tsi engine. It said it was achieved with redesigned exhaust manifold new cooling with air-water (instead of air-air) intercooler...something like that. Sorry I am not good with these technical mumbo-jumbo.

You believe what VW tells you?

Toyota/Lexus Hybrids uses only CVT. The internal combustion engines car uses conventional auto.

Yep that's what I read also.  Tyt avoided DCT as it was too fast & too smooth.

They wanted their SCT to simulate the experience of a very well & hard driven MT transmission.

Edit:  For the LFA...

Turbocharged

Pls refer to attached. There is not much write up about this new transmission.

I think this is the 8-speed torque convertor I have heard of. The "Direct Shift" is probably trying to say it is "responsive" and "quick-shifting", or maybe they are just advertising its manual control.

Spot On!

Direct Shift does not mean dual clutch.

The tech name is dual clutch. Manufacturer can call it DSG DCT Powershift etc...
