If Prime taxi is using Prius alpha, I am sure they can bring in the same model to sell.

Before i bought my car..i did ask 1 of the PIs who was only selling the S model whether they can bring in the A model on indent basis..they said they dont want...

So it might not be as simple as we think..

Hi all!

First of all, thank you everyone who contribute 25 pages worth of knowledge to this thread! Been super useful thus far.

I just join this forum and is about to buy my first car!

Never thought I would even consider a Prius as it's way out of my budget when I visit BM.

But when I found out that PI is almost 30k cheaper, I was very skeptical but decided to research how legit it is and what are the risk associated (scams, expensive servicing, etc). I'm amazed I could actually get a Prius from PI for the price of Prius C from BM!

After reading lots of articles and forums online, I thoughts its safe to buy from some reputable PIs. And for the price difference, what you are getting from PI's Prius S, A and BM's  Prius 'A'. (Thanks @nostalgia, @auron

I will be heading down to a 2 PI over the next few days to take a look:

- PI that start with H in Sin Ming

- PI that start with V in Ubi

Before I head down, I hope to get some recommendation for SE and understand more what extra deals some people manage to get from their SE. Would really appreciate if any kind soul could PM me as much detail you are comfortable with. I will consider checking other PI if it comes highly recommended.

Every PI seem to have bad SE so I rather not take my chances with random SE or SE advertise themselves on forum.

As this is my first post, I apologise if I said anything I shouldn't have.

I'm super excited about getting my first car but is as worried about making costly mistakes with the purchase.

Thank you and looking to hearing from you all!

not sure whether u have consider kia niro...

at least it is around the same price and its AD and not PI... go and test drive and see how it goes...

i always say, no harm test drving and it does not cost u much except time...

n usually car is the 2nd biggest purchase after housing... so do some legworks...

i think the 2 PI that you stated is ok.

go visit both and see how it goes... and sometimes also determine by model or ready stock, colour, etc...

both PI also have facebook, drop them a msg and see who respond to you...

and maybe you can gauge their responses and built up some online relationship before heading down their showroom...

good luck in your search... n it would be good if eventually you are another prius owner...

Thanks @archenemy and @auron!

Thanks for the advice and I did visit C&C and other AD to look at Kia Niro and others.

Eventually, the few car we shortlisted is Prius(PI), Niro (AD), Honda Freed (PI) and Mazda 2 (AD) in that order of preference at the moment.

They are all very different car I know.

The only one we haven't test drive is Honda Freed as its a PI model only and we haven't visit any PI yet.

Mazda 2 is our favourite within that price range.

The rest are Hybrid.

Honda Freed is the only 7 Seater. We hang out with my our extended family almost every other week so we thought it's nice to be able to accommodate everyone but it's not critical. But we thought the FC for Freed is good so why not check it out. But really have to view it and try it before we know if it will stay in our shortlist.

Between Prius and Niro, Prius is ahead simply because Niro is sort of Kia's first Hybrid. On the other hand, Prius been around 20 years and we believe overall, it'll be easier and cheaper to service Prius rather than Niro after warranty period as there is so much more Prius around.

What we eventually decide will also boil down to the confidence and financing option which the PI give us. We would prefer to take shorter loan but we heard both AD and PI will charge you more for the car if you take less loan or for shorter period.

why mazda 2? mazda 3 should be in the price range or even slightly cheaper the last i check...

unless you also belong to the group of ppl that avoid cars that are used by taxi/uber/grab...

for 7 seaters, sienta hybrid got check out?

and what about honda shuttle hybrid... shuttle is 3rd in sales chart of PI car sold in 2016...

n its true, the shorter loan period, they will charge more... as they earn $$$ from the loan amt...

Mazda 3 is $10k more than Mazda 2, making the price come really close to the other 3 cars we prefer.

So not much point looking at Mazda 3.

Among compact MPVs, wife don't like how Sienta look like and Honda Shuttle is a stationwagon but not 7 seater.

Honda Freed hybrid come closest to our need if we want a 7 seater.

Other MPV FC's not great. We clock more than 30000km a year so FC is very important.

Both Prius and Niro is roomy is enough to squeeze 6 people for the occasional use, or at least how it feels to me~

Haven't test it with the whole family yet. :)

Listen.

Prius, you are Butt Ugly. Yucks.

You are taxi and now even tattooed taxi by Grab / Uber (ppl rejected by bonafide cab companies)

Sienta, you are boxy but utilitarian.

Honda Freed looks nicest.

So in the family car hybrid section...sliding doors.

Remember, many people are going to need wheelchair transport and medical appointment runs soon.

The current lowered step in Sienta/Freed is useful for elderly and children.

Easy parking, save fuel money, cheap maintenance.

Singapore car like Corolla.

P/s if you understood Japanese, mazu Mazuda....just sharing.

Prius is only a 2+3 seater..how you gonna squeeze 6 unless you mean squeezing 4 kids behind

@datsun366 Haha, I think the latest Prius look controversial but not necessary ugly. It's one of design which people will have strong opinion of. And yes, I agree Honda Freed is nice and will probably be a little more rare but that will come with its disadvantages when it comes to servicing.

@archenemy, it wouldn't be comfortable sharing sitting 4 behind but sometime desperate mah. Backside one in, one out. We manage to do it with Altis in the past so should be able to do it with equivalent size like Prius and Niro. Mazda 2 no chance so in bigger family outing, some have to take Uber loh! But around 90% of the time it'll be for work and it'll just be one or 2 person.

My dad used to ferry 6 of us (mom, 3 sis and I) inside his Mazda 323 mostly during weekends. The 4 ladies were squeezed behind(all adults). Unless you're constantly going to have 6 passengers inside your ride, the Prius is actually pretty comfortable with 5 passengers.

Obviously it's not going to be that comfortable for the 4 squeezed behind but being in Singapore, any trip you take within the Island will average around 30mins(conservatively) unless you're always heading from East to West and vice-versa or caught in a traffic jam.

That said, the rear passenger seat of the Prius is much bigger than the Mazda 323 or Nissan Sunny which we've owned previously. The irony is now that we've become much older and some of us have our own families, the bigger space is actually catered for a smaller number of passengers. [:p]

My suggestion is for you to test out the seating arrangement of the car before you commit to it. [;)]

I presume that, you're aware if you carry more passengers than the authorized capacity, you assume the risk of insufficient insurance coverage in case of any accident?

Not to mention safety concerns (insufficient safety seat belts) and catching the eye of the Traffic Police.
