egg vs stone ...

Votes counting cannot see EGG.

I really hope Bukit Batok voters give CSJ a good fair chance to show his sincerity and determination in proving his long standing opposition views and his counter measures.

I hope people can take a step back, and look at things from another angle. This Man, CSJ, has been fighting for the past 20 years, what he has gone through few of us can ever imagine, not that I have done it myself, but seriously how many of us can hang on like him?

20 years, that is not a short time frame, how many politicians came and go, how many appeared with fire so high it could burn down the twin towers, just to disappear soon after they fail. How many change party after party after party but never really get any job done. How many run away when news of legal may be brought against them.

Politicians, how many are really clean? A clean man can never be a politician, only a smart man can be one. So what if one goes around shouting, so what if one fights his mentor and wins a fight, I don't even mind if he gets a blow job from a willing party under the table. The important thing is can he serve the majority, can he bring about good policies, can he make our life better.

CSJ is human after all, why can't we just give the man a 2nd chance, at least give him merit base on the fact that he did not run away for the pass 20 years. What damage can he do us? Not much I can think of now, but can he change the current monopoly political situation? We can never know unless we get him in.

And so I say, get him in guys, get him in.

egg vs stone ...

After viewing the video, I do not understand why this person bother to waste his money and energy to make this half-bake video. All full of his personal opinions imho. Can't find any supporting facts.

What I get is that he support CSJ because of freedom of speech ideology. He mentioned he understood CSJ because 3 years ago he went to his bookstore to promote his book(s). But isn't it more of first impression and sales talk? Isn't it how people got fooled in the past and then suffered for it?  Come on, you think he could have so many still supporting him if he can't even put up a good front?

As an elderly man, he should have read about his reckless days many years ago. I can understand if he choose to forgive him and decide to give him a second chance, but character definitely should rank very highly when a person choose who to support as there are so much at stake.

I would see more sincerity from CSJ if he is man enough to confess publicly about his past follies and admit what he had done is wrong and seek forgiveness from the affected people, shedding a few tears along the way would be nice. Only then would I believe he is sincere about changing. Before that happen, all I can see are false fronts and a desperate opportunistic fellow at work, not different from what the person has been doing in the past. In fact, I would expect him to jump out at every opportunity whenever I read about any of those unfortunate incidences.

There are always 2 sides to a coin. Your opinion would vary depending on which you choose to see or believe. Only time can tell. But until the day CSJ publicly admit his past follies, I would not want to give him any chance. You are entitled to your opinion. Have a nice day.

First, let me see that he has really changed. Time can fade the bad memories, but people can forgive and forget earlier if they can see that a person has truly changed. We give second chance only to deserving people, those who have truly reformed. Not hip just to give second chance because it is the in-thing to do now.

The first step would be to admit his past mistakes publicly and apologies to the affected people. To have closure is the appropriate word. I believe you can almost see the bitterness from Lina Chiam when she issued the statement last week. The damage this CSJ has done!

How to trust that a person with dubious history has truly reformed if he does not own up his past? Or he still thinking he has been right till now?

Show me the money, is what I am asking now.

I believe that it is not the majority does not want to give this man a 2nd chance, but rather they cant wait to give him a 2nd or even 3rd or 4th or even 5th chance BUT as long as NOT in my backyard. With that his fate is sealed.

We seal have this fear factor that if we are civil servant we are worried we get find out that we voted for other colour than white and the fear of loosing everything we gain materially is very real. This is more for the older generation but the younger generation majority are better and they don't give two hoots about this issue. How many can truthfully said they don't get scared when they see a traffic police along the road. Instinctively we slow down even if we are driving at or below the road speed limits.

When an untruth or lie is told repeatedly it becomes facts and especially when it is repeatedly mentioned by authoritative mass media and authorities themselves. Hence, I learnt to be patient before we accuse anybody anything because once damage is done it is difficult to return to the normal. Eg How many people were accused of crimes that they never commit and were splashed on the newspapers but after sometime found to be innocent. Because these are not news worthy they are often printed on a small section in the back of the newspaper. But damage is already done.

In this by-election, one issue that made me very sad and at the same time upset that the government of the day said not by one person but a few that this man character cannot change his leopard spots. Then they are indirectly saying that they don't believe the yellow ribbon project that they started with social enterprises. Personally, I came in contact with a few murders and robbers and after awhile I find that if you remove their crime from your mind and assess them individually, that some of them are very good people at heart but circumstances cause them to commit a crime. Some of them are really loyal people that I have known.

Once I read in the newspaper that this couple made a pact to commit suicide. But in the end only the girl died, the man did not kill himself but pretend to take poison which he switch to coloured water instead. He wanted her insurance and had another woman. I remembered correctly, this man got away with punishment because they girl wrote that she wanted to commit suicide (whether he instigated her or not). So who is worse this man who instigated a suicide or the murder where both ended with a death.

Life is very unforgiving. Everybody makes mistakes and it is normal. If we don't, then we will be promoted to one of the 5000 odd Gods in this world being worshipped.

In short, may the best man win and hope that the good people in BB can exercise their right to choose the best person for his constituency and live with it without complaining like crazy after the by-election.

In an election, whether a by-election or GE, really a lot are at stake. One must not just look at carrot or we are no different from many ppl north of our Island. In my opinion, both BB candidates are sincere and each has his own style. What are ppl talking about character? I don't see anything wrong in both chatacters. If because CSJ challenged GCT loudly some 20 years and still remembered by some who called it a 'wrong' character, I would rather see it as his political style. Out there, many ppl hope to see more alternative voices and stand with the egg ( got the egg from that video). Let's hope a good and fair fight in BB. Cheers!

I do not have personal encounters with CSJ, so what I read are from the press. You could argue that the press is controlled by the white and we are fed what they want us to believe.

Granted, but has CSJ come clean about his past? Has he clarified he did not drink glucose water while doing strike? Has he clarified that he did not kicked CST out after gaining control of the SDP in the early years? Do you think those are the right things to do for a leader? What kind of signals is he sending out? Ends could justified the means? Would you want such a leader as your MP, however eloquent and righteous he might appear to be now?

I do not want to believe that many do not vote for him because of they being civil servants. That would be true 10 years ago, but definitely very less so now.

Anyway it is not something I want to speculate on. But what I would like to see is this CSJ going to CST and begged for forgiveness for what he has done. I am sure all agree that what CSJ has done to him was plain wrong, no way to wriggle out. This bitterness should be settled before the old man is gone. Cheers.

I do not have personal encounters with CSJ, so what I read are from the press. You could argue that the press is controlled by the white and we are fed what they want us to believe.

You form your opinion from the main stream media and hence characterised this man for better or for worse. Didn't the mass media also reported 100% Iraq has mass weapon of destruction. Similarly I don't know CSJ personally but I read and hear what he has to offer and see if he is consistent with all what he say and do with himself and his political party.

You mean if he accidentally open his mouth while yawn and a fly flew in, he has to declare that he had taken proteins during fasting. Fasting means differently to different people. To some it means anything at all during fasting but to others no solid food. My Catholic friends when they fast on Friday, they don't eat mean but still can drink sugar water.

We don't know what really happened between CST and CSJ. To be politicians one has to be very strong will and speak when the heart is not ease. If CST felt that he was kicked out of his party, I don't recall he made an issue about it even now. If my memory is still intact, it was CST walked out of the party because there were issues that they could not agree. So like in many MNC, when the big boss eg HSBC walks away because he was kicked out and replaced by another boss whom the boss like, the rest of the board of directors must go and beg for forgiveness. I believe political parties are like MNC, dynamic and if you cant survival the situation you are out. Have, you really gotten unequivocal facts that CSJ kicked out CST? Personally I haven't, so I wont be so quick to conclude.

I do not want to believe that many do not vote for him because of they being civil servants. That would be true 10 years ago, but definitely very less so now.

Even less so now but still present and hence we don't know just how much of a swing vote can tilt the outcome.

Anyway it is not something I want to speculate on. But what I would like to see is this CSJ going to CST and begged for forgiveness for what he has done. I am sure all agree that what CSJ has done to him was plain wrong, no way to wriggle out. This bitterness should be settled before the old man is gone. Cheers.

You seem to know a lot of what had happened in SDP in the past. I don't see the Chiams or any of their core executive supporters screaming and calling for blood claiming CSJ had done wrong to them and demand CSJ to beg for forgiveness. In short, does all affect CSJ ability to be a reasonably good politician? Was David Ong's indiscretion hindered his ability to do his MP work effectively? On the contrary, some say his indiscretion may make him look forward to come to every session that his MP job requires .... kind of incentives.

Bro, don't be quick to condemn someone or anybody, be it white, blue, yellow, red or any colours of united Benetton. Bottomline, we shouldn't be distracted by events if they are non consequential to the overall picture. The overall picture is what BB residents want and they have to live with their decision and its consequences.

Don't get to upset or emotional about these politicians or event because at the end of the day realistically to them we are just a vote to them and nothing more.

Regarding the CST vs CSJ saga, a person would be blind to the bitterness exhibited by Lina Chiam. CST could have a bigger heart not to pursue anything in public, or he also knew he has been partly responsible so he chose to keep quiet. But it has definitely left a very bitter after-taste, so bad that after 20 years it still affected her enough to issue public statement to state categorically of something we consider trivial, even at the expense of showing unity to tackle a common enemy.

Anyway, everyone has their opinions, and I respect that. I said my piece, and I will just leave it at that. Argue till cow goes home also will achieve anything, haha.

May the BB residents make a wise decision this Polling Day, wise being dependent on where you stand haha.

Talking about encounters, So far I have met 5 opposition members in public. Election time and rally excluded.

The first one was JBJ. Should be in the early 80s when I met him at habourfront centre. He was asking me to buy a copy of Hammer but I just smiled and said no. Too young to understand political stuffs.

Second one should be CST, when I was walking towards Outram MRT along new bridge road. This should be in the late 80s. His hair was messy and he was with his daughter. He should be going to his law firm. He looked so fatherly and unassuming.

Third was CSJ, near to Somerset MRT when i was going to comcentre. I dont know what he was doing there and didnt bother to find out.

4th and 5th were Chen Show Mao at Kovan hawker centre(quite a few times in the evening) looking for food and Sylvia Lim at a coffee shop in Serangoon. She was there to buy food from a popular roasted duck stall. Not sure if she did queue or not  :D
