Gizmore Supercharged April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 Why can't she just do her own thing and not meddling with how the country wants to commemorate her father's passing. She should know that no matter what the old man wishes, being the founding prime minister and all the work that he had done over the past 50 years, LKY can never have a private life be it alive or after his passing. Imagine if we, as a country, just let the anniversary past as just any ordinary day, you think what the mass media of the world will say. It will be a PR disaster as a country. Personally, I find the commemoration ceremony all over the island simple and solemn. Don't understand what's the problem? LWL is obviously upset with the full media coverage of the commemoration event whereby erasers were put together to form LKY's image and all that is going around the island. LWL being the primary care giver during her late father last days probably reinforce her believe on how LKY himself wants to be remembered after his passing. PR disaster or not, I don't know. I would tend to think that LKY would probably wants Singaporeans to remember him by looking around Singapore rather than to have any special event dedicated to him. I sympathizes with LHL's position, a Son, a brother and the PM. As much as PAP denies that LKY's passing has any impact on the GE result, I do feel it has soften some of the hard line anti-pap citizens a fair bit, specially those hovering on the border. If LHL does exactly who his late father has instructed, Singaporeans will find him heartless just like his father. It will not go down well for him politically. He loosen too much, which is the case now, he gets pie on his face by his sibling for not fulfilling their late father's wishes. Difficult and delicate to balance all three roles. LWL has always been direct and no nonsense (just like her father) although in this instance she is overly harsh with her 'dishonorable' son claim. It would be interesting to see how LHL navigate this issue. To be honest, I am disappointed that he decided to have a post on social media. It seems to be he is interested join in the party of washing dirty linen in public. I would be more impressed with LHL if he managed to sort out with LWL privately and get her to retract her statement on her own accord. My feeling is that, if you can't even manage family differences, how are you going to manage the country? Now, it is like a no-holds-barred spar between the two. Vratenza Supersonic April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 lol unintentional. HO Ching 1 hr · Peace, folks, and embarrassed apologies from this Twitter newbie. Had been playing around with Twitter y'day, trying out different buttons, seeing what can or cannot be done. Discovered Twitter reposts pictures without captions, and unfortunately one of the pictures could be misunderstood on its own. Took down as soon as a friend alerted me. There are enough troubles in the world. Far from adding oil to fires, I would prefer we try to solve and resolve problems, among friends, within families and between neighbours. We grieve in different ways, and should leave space for each of us to come to terms with our loss. Grieving is especially hard when tears come at unexpected moments. I respect and deeply appreciate the many heartfelt commemorations, and understand those who prefer a more stoic approach. Hopefully, the passage of time will help heal. Many thanks too for all the kind wishes, sound advice and generous thoughts. Take care, all, and have a good week and year ahead. That counts as one of the longer "Sorry, I fugged up." I have ever seen.
Nolicense Turbocharged April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 She and LHY want to honour LKY's wishes to have the house demolished if she is no longer living there. If not demolished, only opened to family members. LKY was very clear about that. But LHL set up a committee to decide what to do with the house. She is probably dulan that LHL bo chi as a PM to just go ahead and demolish but left open the possibility that hundreds of thousands of people may eventually be trooping through the house and gawking at LKY's and his wife's possessions. She wants to follow her father's wishes to the letter. LHL wants to do with is right for Singapore and Singaporeans. So, fight lah! I would like to praise this comment but stopped short when I saw the "fight lah".. LOL also I do not think LHL wants to do with is right for Singapore and Singaporeans. LKY already explained very clearly this hero worship thing. he understood it very well. now a days you can misappropriate money, power and anything intangible.. this is about more than just legacy.. Darryn Turbocharged April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 Leave the dishonorable son part alone. She said LHL wanted to create a dynasty. That by itself by any public figure requires an official response. If spoken unofficially of course won't need to respond like this. CNA actually hadn't reported any of the spat between her and ST. But when PMO released the statement, LL they reported liao. Why does it require a response? What names he is called hardly constitutes a national security issue, Likewise, how a dead person is commemorated also doesn't actually mean very much to the issues of the day such that the PM MUST follow the wishes of the Cabinet -- For my mind - there is no reason that he can't "step aside" from his role as PM and speak on this as a son - after all, what difference would it really make? Do commemorations need an up or down vote from him or the government? If people want to hold their own ceremonies are they not free to do so? Likewise - the discussions surrounding the appropriate use of the likeness of LKY make for some very discomforting comparisons and thoughts.

Darryn Turbocharged April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 if LWL simply stated these examples as quotes from source, would it avoid the plagiarism issue? rather than I think the angle of passing it off as original thought.. rewording it would have been acceptable. To me I think the thing about plagiarism is being overstated - there is nothing particularly original or ground breaking or anything in what she lifted - it's more of a "factual" report - the ideas of the article are still quite obviously hers and hers alone. When I write I would often copy material such as that (although I would have taken the effort to credit or rewrite).

No, my opinion is that he is faithful to his father's instruction. not heartless. in fact I cannot understand what rationale by following the instruction makes him heartless to singaporeans. if he does what LKY instructed, I will find that LHL has gusto. He is his own man if he closes that chapter for LKY. its not the house demolition I am thinking about, it is the other people who will try to make use of what other things surrounding it.

Runforyourlife 5th Gear April 11, 2016 Share April 11, 2016 In your honest opinion, don't you feel the whole "celebration" thingy is too much? Its like a year liao still celebrate n celebrate. Byelection coming also keep focusing on it. We are Singaporeans and we know who LKY is. Honoring imo is different from worshipping. ↡ Advertisement
