Spring Moderator June 17, 2016 Share June 17, 2016 Wales to beat Russia and Slovakia to beat England ... England still going on bus home under the English channel crossing ... Haha but even if England finish 3rd, 4 pts highly likely to be able to get them thru! ↡ Advertisement

Adrianli Hypersonic June 17, 2016 Share June 17, 2016 Just as France became the first team thru to the 2nd round the previous night, Ukraine became the first team to go out of the competition with their 2nd defeat last nite. Tonite's Sweden v Italy game Shld be one of the games to look out for, in fact Czech v Croatia n Spain v Turkey also seems mouth watering on paper. Tmr's 3 games will complete matchday 2 n roll on match day 3 which would decide the fate of teams n then on to the k/o stages with possible shootouts looming, can't wait!! Nice summary. Scion Turbocharged June 17, 2016 Share June 17, 2016 wonder what is Bale's freekick conversion rate.... considering he has scored 2 freekicks in this Euro already Is Cristiano Ronaldo's free-kick taking ability a myth? When was the last time the Real Madrid star scored a screamer for Portugal at a major tournament? The three-time Ballon d'Or winner looked set for late heroics against Iceland at Euro 2016 on Tuesday when he was given the opportunity from the dead ball late on. Ronaldo sent his first free-kick into the wall, but a handball saw it moved closer. His second was also fired straight at the Iceland wall. It added to what has been a prolonged dry spell with free-kicks at major international events. Statistics from Opta reveal that Ronaldo has taken 34 free-kicks (18 at the World Cup and 16 at the European Championship) and failed to convert any of them in 28 major tournament games. Worryingly, only eight have even hit the target. Of the remainder, 13 have been blocked and 13 have missed the target. MOST DIRECT FREE-KICKS TAKEN AT MAJOR TOURNAMENTS (Since 1978, European players) 34 (scored 0) – Cristiano Ronaldo27 (0) – Gheorghe Hagi25 (2) – Michel Platini22 (0) – Ronald Koeman21 (2) – Zinedine Zidane18 (0) – Wesley Sneijder18 (0) – Francesco Totti17 (2) – Hristo Stoichkov17 (1) – Fernando Hierro16 (1) – Sinisa Mihajlovic According to Opta, Ronaldo has a conversion rate of 6.9 per cent in the league and Champions League for Manchester United and Madrid. He has scored 41 direct free-kicks from 594 attempts in those competitions. Of European players at major international tournaments since 1978, Gheorghe Hagi (0 from 27), Ronald Koeman (0 from 22), Wesley Sneijder (0 from 18) and Francesco Totti (0 from 18) also never converted. David Beckham was renowned for his free-kick taking and his record was two out of 13, while former Germany international Thomas Hassler is the most efficient after netting two of 10. MOST EFFICIENT DIRECT FREE-KICK TAKERS AT MAJOR TOURNAMENTS (Since 1978, European players) 20 per cent – Thomas Hassler15.4 per cent – David Beckham11.8 per cent – Hristo Stoichkov9.5 per cent – Zinedine Zidane8 per cent – Michel Platini

Beregond Supersonic June 17, 2016 Share June 17, 2016 Hart is pretty suspect. that free kick is is hard to catch . the best free kick is 1 that go in through the top corner. next best is bend and dip to almost ground level.

Bale's free kick is the bend and dip type both times and on TV in normal mode seems savable but if you see in slow-mo it takes a wicked dip, compounded by Wales putting a man at the edge of the wall to obscure the goalie's vision. So not entirely goalie's fault. Anyway, he is amongst the top 4-5 players in the World and hope to see more of him! Look at all the twitter reaction from Goalkeepers. Oliver Kahn said exactly the same thing. http://www.goal.com/euro2016/en/article/absolutely-terrible-goalkeeping---twitter-reacts-to-joe-harts-blunder/bep3wdrjzef31cf8bpi0zbqf4 I mean, i can't see buffon or De Gea or even Courtois letting in such goals.

Wha good link bro! I suppose Hart has to take some blame esp as he should have been wiser after the first Bale free kick goal v Slovakia but still feel it had a real powerful swerve to it. The studio commentators mentioned and also posted by Schmeichel that perhaps a wall shouldn't even be put up in the first place as it was such a distance away. Anyway credit to Bale who is a real superstar!!

He's a bit like david james. Athletic ability there. But prone to the occasional calamity. But still the best english keeper. David James...... good at low shots but lousy at high balls esp crosses and for such a tall goalie is almost unheard of!! cashcow Turbocharged June 17, 2016 Share June 17, 2016 England has to play Slovakia before knowing their status. Not an easy game. Slovakia will like play tight defence and go for quick counterattack. No room for GK error for JH.
mersaylee Hypersonic June 17, 2016 Share June 17, 2016 Alli and Sterling wasted 2 positions. Don't think they will be starters next game. Rooney passes too strong sometimes for team mates. Not an easy shot for any keeper to save...won't blame JH but he should have ordered for 4-5 men wall. ↡ Advertisement
