Public Service Announcement

Good News for  W205/C205 (C-class) and X253/C253 (GLC) owners, there is a new software update to fix the "slowing time keeping" of the system.

Ask for it when you next send your car in for any servicing or fixing other issues.

I don't think is worth the time and effort to send in just to fix that unless you are really free.... :D

They have not published the new car price but normally the SE will offer discount from the list price. So you have to go down the showroom to actually get the final price. Can look for my SE Su-En.

Pump both one full tank after another. Feel the difference. Determine with your wallet.

If don't feel any difference in performance, don't waste the money.

Some drivers (journalist inclusive) are blessed with being numb to nuances of the car response to various grades of petrol.

what grade petrol do you all use for your merc ah? the sales rep told me to pump 98 only for my c180 when i first picked it up but i read this recent article saying 95 is good enough: http://www.asiaone.com/singapore/should-you-really-use-premium-petrol-your-car

Esso 98 for me.

Shell 95 is ok, but SPC fuels can give knocking, esp their 95. YMMV.

My non-Merc min 92. Recommend to use 98.

I guess it’s due to some countries have wide range of fuel grades on offer but not all kiosks have the full range. So, recommended min octane just to get by till the next available kiosk stop, not so good for a prolonged usage especially in our hot climate.

I always find it amusing to find questions of minimum RON in premium conti threads.

If the amount saved  from using 95 instead of 98 is significant enough to make the person bother, then that really begs the question if a premium conti is really for the person.

I said this many times in MCF,  modern  cars with decent performance will have a couple of fuel maps in their Ecu. The car will default to most advanced ignition timing until it detects detonation and it will retard the timing using a lower map till it finds the optimum performance for the fuel you gives it.

You give it RON 98, it will give you RON 98 performance. You give it RON 95 it will give you RON95 performance. If you drive sedately.all the time, just use RON 95. If you are a keen driver, only RON 98 will do. Just because you cannot discern the difference in performance because you drive sedately anyway does not meant RON98 is waste of money for people who utilize it better than you.

To individual preference on petrol octane level in regardless of what car anyone drive. Continental ownership does not necessary lift up the status of any person, it’s still a car. I still pump 95 occassionally 97
