teomingern 6th Gear December 11, 2017 Share December 11, 2017 If the price difference between Elantra 1.6 and 1.6T is less than 20k, I believe 1.6T will be the best seller. I see more Forester XT and Civic 1.5T than Forester NA and Civic 1.6 on the road. Different market bro... for the Forester XT, there's nothing close at $125K for that kind of power and SUV build... people don't pick it up only cos it's too ugly... for the Civic 1.5T, there really aren't many around... so you can imagine for an Elantra 1.6T at 125K, no one will buy it... given the pricing for the Tucson & Kona 1.6T, you can see that the price won't drop below $120K unless you have a significant COE price drop... so it won't sell well... ↡ Advertisement

Daniu82 Supercharged December 13, 2017 Share December 13, 2017 (edited) Just got the price from KMC, 1.6L turbo AWD @ $137,999 and 1L manual turbo @ $96,999. 1.6L turbo S model for Tucson only @ $132,999. Don't know what makes it more expensive than Tucson. It will make it's debut at next month's motor show. Edited December 13, 2017 by Daniu82

Don't know what makes it more expensive than Tucson. It will make it's debut at next month's motor show. Since Kona is only debuting next year, I'm guessing the KONA has already priced in the new VES surcharge whereas the current Tucson pricing has yet to reflect the new VES. Coolant 3rd Gear December 13, 2017 Share December 13, 2017 (edited) from what i gathered, apparently the Kona 1.6T got hit with much higher surcharges next year compared to the Tucson 1.6T, so it ended up more expensive. the Kona 1.6T's 4WD system probably increased its emissions scores (compared to Tucson 1.6T which is 2WD, lower emissions?), hence the extra surcharges. i guess it's all thanks to the new VES rules, messing up the pricing of various new cars. i did notice that the Kona 1.6T comes with more high tech equipment like lane keeping assist, auto emergency braking, wireless charging pad etc, so those extra stuff bump up the price too. seems they are hoping to position it as a higher specced model. at least the 1.0T version is more reasonably priced (being in Cat A and neutral band helps alot), just hope it eventually comes with auto transmission then should sell well.. Coolant 3rd Gear December 13, 2017 Share December 13, 2017 (edited) Who would buy the Elantra Sport? They may sell only 1 unit a year... not worth the cost of homologation...yeah, everyone wants to see those performance models but very few people actually buy when they see the price.. end up nice car sitting in showroom just bai sui collecting dust.. still hope they at least bring in a few units, would look good in showroom. Yup... the 1.0T is the way forward... the 1.6T is probably the halo model with few sales... the OMV must be quite high...

GravityBlue 4th Gear December 27, 2017 Share December 27, 2017 on paper, Elantra Sport win Civic 1.5 turbo 204ps /265nm vs 170ps/220nm. There are die hard Hyundai fans around , probably u can spot it at the coming motor show, bright red or yellow in colour , heehee. Daniu82 Supercharged December 27, 2017 Share December 27, 2017 Maybe entry level Audi A3??? That's a sedan. Seems like difficult to find a compact SUV to compare with it (price wise). More expensive than Vezel, Qashqai, even Tucson.
Matrix0405 5th Gear December 27, 2017 Share December 27, 2017 wow, Korean got 1.0L turbo engine! Output 118bhp = cat A. This is a killer engine for Sin. There's a 1.2L turbo for Nissan Qashqai and 1.2L turbo for Toyota CHR too, but I don't understand why KMC wants to bring in a manual version for 1L turbo instead on an auto version for SG market. If 1L auto turbo and cat A maybe can sell better here. Edited December 27, 2017 by Daniu82 ↡ Advertisement
