Kopites Supersonic March 9, 2017 Share March 9, 2017 I think this new Vehicular Emissions Scheme (VES) is out to collect more money from car buyers. Even the Toyota Prius is not spared: it shall moved to a neutral band under the new scheme. Just look at the measures that the Government has implemented for the past few months: 1. Increase in parking coupons; 2. Increase in PAP's Town Councils' S&CC; 3. Increase in water charges (30%); 4. New Carbon Tax; 5. Re-banding of VES. All were given in the name of either long-time haven't increased, water is a strategic resource, more environmentally friendly. The Government is racking its brains out, as the 2017's Budget is expected to have a basis deficit of $5.6 billion; they expect to plug this gap through the Net Investment Return (NIR) incomes from Temasek and GIC. So, I would suggest that you spare yourselves doing all the analysis and spreadsheets on which car has the lowest carbon footprint and the lowest VES surcharge or highest rebate, the Government has already covered all the angles. The only carbon "neutral" transport now is Bus No. 11. You want me to add on since Feb? 0.1cent per litre increase in diesel. Minial or outrageous? This mean 18000ltr per truck load I am paying 1800 dollar for tax. Petrochemical company call it duty! 0.1cent is tax on tax! Your should know what I mean. ↡ Advertisement

Butakim 1st Gear March 9, 2017 Share March 9, 2017 Some of the more popular models Qashqai 1.2 will incur a surcharge of 20k according to Chris Tan. Am I am seeing right? Nonewposts 4th Gear March 9, 2017 Share March 9, 2017 Mazda 3. Qq Immediately sales plummet. Imagine price increase by 20k over night? Ultimate winner? Toyota altis. Huat Ah! But definitely translate to higher car price But on a positive note. Can we all pay tribute to Toyota? Their altis really lives up to its name. Even such drastic changes altis has no difference. Silent hero i thought the mazda should be cleaner since it is using a newer engine technology(skyactive). toyota old technology rules here This also means that qq can fetch higher prices for resale? ppl will just lose interest in qq. Is vezel affected?

Is vezel affected? The Vezel / HRV goes up by 5k. Maybe there's a payback for the high compression ratio of the Mazda, which gives their high FC.. Corolla is just a solid mule of an engine that keeps going. That's why they may refuse to innovate.. no incentive to change. Suddenly 2016 Corollas will be cleared off the shelf with no issues
TangoElite 6th Gear March 9, 2017 Share March 9, 2017 (edited) Actual chart here: 2. In addition to the carbon dioxide (CO2) criterion in the existing CEVS, the VES will cover 4 other pollutants - hydrocarbons (HC), carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). 4. The VES rebate[1] or surcharge for a car or taxi will be determined by its worst-performing pollutant. This is to encourage buyers to choose models that have lower emissions across all criteria and are cleaner overall, so as to further improve ambient air quality and thereby improve public health[2] (refer to Annex A for Singapore’s air quality targets).6. To account for the CO2 emissions produced by electricity generation from fossil fuels, an emission factor will be applied to the electricity consumption of electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) as measured under the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Regulation No.101 test procedures. Doppel Turbocharged March 9, 2017 Share March 9, 2017 cannot, u need to eat to have energy to do ur bus 11 when u walk u emit farts next time u bus 11 and fart u get taxed I beg to differ: It is carbon neutral: 1. You eat food 2. CO2 is captured via photosynthesis (all food sources' energy are derived from the sun); 3. You digest food 4. You take Bus No. 11 5. You emit CO2. The only non carbon neutral portion is the transportation of food, which is powered by fossil fuel.

synthez 2nd Gear March 9, 2017 Share March 9, 2017 can anyone explain. these cars effectively will cost more when the scheme kicks in. so it makes sense that they are cheaper now. but the fact that they are not that CO free, will they cost more to maintain when they are due for emmision test? I think no one knows for sure. What happens if ppl buy the cheaper more 'polluting' car. When inspection time comes around, and the car cannot pass despite regular servicing what then? Not road-worthy? Pay a fine? Pour RON 98 petrol before inspection? Does that make a diff? Jialat..... ppl like me monitor COE, will continue to monitor forever? How is the public gonna react? Demand surge cos cars gonna cost more next year?
