Bro Ct3833,

I also did considered even Alphard/Vellfire but taken aback by the height restrictions to older car parks. Full size MPVs has it benefits like others mentioned, road presence, high driving position, the convenience of sliding doors and comfortable second row seats for kids and parents. I had owned SUV before and hit the nail on the head on the limitations. I think my calling is still an MPV (used to own a Sienta), that’s why zoomed down to an Estima/Previa.

Was thinking of the triplets too to outweigh the FC over an Estima, but with a 1.8L hybrid engine, is neither here nor there lea.

Is this alphard-too-tall-for-carparks true or an urban legend? Which old mscps are these?

Hi, have not thought about it because initially i was looking at new, that left me with only Ody and Sharan, then i moved to look at used subsequently, my thought  strayed to Vellfire and Alphard for a while till you guys pointed out about the height, now back to used Estima , Sharan and Ody. For me, if Estima, i will likely to look at 2016 or 2017 because it is newer😀. What are your considerations ?

I'm definately going for used. Alphard/Vellfire out due to the height and cost. I don't like Ody's 3rd row seat especially how it folds. Never liked how Honda does it, same as Freed compared to Sienta. I felt Toyota has put in more thoughts in maximizing the space used. But then again, its personal preference.

Sharan, even though it is wet clutch 6-speed I still have phobia for VAG's DSG. Plus, VW is more ex.

Left Estima or Previa. If going for FL model, got twin moonroof, Toyota Safety Sense, LDA etc. Looks wise I felt the pre-FL more classy, especially with the leather seat and wood trimmings.

Alphard/Vellfire is 1.85m tall. There are old mscp that have only 1.8m height clearance. One good example would be the AMK Central Blk 712 mscp.

True.

Was comparing between the Nissan Serena & Ody for a weekend family car.

The Serena anything below 1.9m no go. Maybe can go by this site to plan your trip.

Ground clearance is very important when I was looking for a MPV, as the elderly in the family must be able to get in and out (chair must be at her pelvis height, no climbing in required just sit) the trunk must be deep enough for wheel chair. Was looking at the Previa (before discon) didnt make the cut. Fuel consumption, exterior design, speed, was the least of my concern. Anyway diff ppl diff needs.

oh, the 7-seaters we have are 3-3-2, instead of 3-2-3. So actually it is an option for him to sit with my parents in 2nd row, but it's shoulder to shoulder and they - esp the kids - will prefer more comfort in sitting 2-2-2 if possible.

this was especially obvious when we went overseas and rented a 8-seater (iMax, Previa, Carnival). They wanted more space/comfort by sitting 2-2-2. At one point with the Previa, there was a stupid spare tyre at the boot, which took up so much luggage space that we had to fold down one of the 3rd row seats to put luggage. For that stretch, one of them had to squeeze into 2nd row with my folks, and it looked a bit of a torture for whoever taking turns to sit there 😅

Your folks donno or don wan to play with your kids with...?😁

Actually this carpark height has been overblown generally. I have owned 3 MPVs so far that are over 1.8m - Biante, Vellfire, Steppie. I have been turned away from carparks due to height restriction only on a few occasions after so many years. You will need to consider if your usual haunts from Monday to Sunday need access to carparks that are too low for your car. If can clear this hurdle, then you should be able to get this kind of tall rides as the chances of you needing to park in such carparks elsewhere is generally very low, like maybe 2 to 3 times a year? You can always look for parking nearby and not die die must park there. It is a problem only if you keep thinking it is a problem haha.

I have owned my Steppie for about 1 year now, so far only encounter a carpark when running errands that has height restriction: Blk 501 Tampines Central 1, that is 1.8m. I just park my ride in Tampines One and walk over lah. Not the end of the world definitely.

about carpark height issues, it is not about how many carparks have height limit but the stress on the driver every time he needs to drive to somewhere unfamiliar

what if you are distracted and forgot to look at the height limit sign before entry?

also previously when travelling to malaysia, this problem becomes more acute as the situations may be even more unforgiving there

😬

That is why your risk appetite is important as it will determine how you will live your life. You can worry about many things in life, be it buying cars from PI scare dealer run road, buying a EV car scare catch fire, buying condo scare lose job, buying tall car scare stuck in carpark. Really stressful, man.

I do not think those who got tall rides got stressed at all. Is just a matter of getting used to it. But if you are doing sales or need to travel all over Singapore on daily basis, then maybe think harder if you can accept this stress or not.

well... you can bochap all these considerations in life and then deal with it when you face them with even more stress at that time

or you can avoid all the potential issues and reduce stress altogether by making carefully considered decisions before you buy and know how to handle the issues if you were to decide to go ahead and then get to face them one day

dont forget your entire family is also affected and not just you alone esp when we are talking about 7 seater mpv

its really not about risk appetite but about taking responsibility for a decision

To me there is no right or wrong answer here. Sure getting a tall ride can affect the whole family but what is the worse that can happen? Just park nearby and walk abit more? You can also always let your family drop off at the place and park your car nearby then walk over. So difficult to do? To me this is not being bochap but putting things in correct perspective. I also do not want to train my kids to have this entitled mentality. Nobody owes them a living.

Tall or short, stuck anot...

What is the service support for MPv?

The best service support, cheap and good or chop carrothead?

That would be key performance indicator.

From personal experience, Toyota would be standard but unfortunately their sub con rate quite low with me. Yubitsume neh?

Thus, which MPv has the best service support vs resource outlay. Percentage wise.

Ta.

MPV is supposed to be a practical vehicle. But different buyers will have different needs like what bro @Atachi said.
