Foreign-Registered camper vans in Singapore

We are a German couple driving around the world with our MAN UNICAT expedition truck. We are currently in Cambodia and plan to drive to Singapore port via Thailand and Malaysia. We want to ship the truck to South Africa.

It is said that foreign-Registered camper vans have to be towed through Singapore.

Any idea or assistance to organize for this, please? Thanks a lot

AA Singapore did not reply to our requests fo far.

Hi und wie geht's @humanfactors ! Firstly looks like an adventure and congratulations. The workaholics among us envy you. The other comments have already suggested you contact our Land Transport Authority but unfortunately campervans aren't actually allowed in our city-state, foreign or not. If you have engaged someone to ship your campervan to South Africa, perhaps they can further help to arrange for towing, etc. Otherwise, you could also consider shipping the van from Malaysia, which has ports just off the Singapore coast (Pasir Gudang). Hope we can help in any way.

Extracted from LTA website.

Which foreign-registered vehicles can enter Singapore?
  • Allowed – passenger vehicles making return trips for private uses.
  • Not Allowed – armoured vehicles, camper vans, caravan trailers and mini buses with cooking and sleeping facilities.

AA Singapore should be the best to advise. The procedure would be to drive to Johor Bahru, park your camper in one of the secured car park in Johor Bahru, take a public transport into Singapore to do the paper works (insurance, import permit if any) then return to Malaysia to drive your truck in. Alternatively, you can send the camper to South Africa via Port Klang in Malaysia. Definitely cheaper.

It will be a long short for you to apply for a permit to get your van on sgp road. The viable option is really to get it towed. Could you share exeactly the start and end point of where you want your van to be towed ? I suppose from Malaysia immigration to a port in SGP ? Once understood, some users here would be able to refer you to some towing companies. Edited by Ct3833

Thanks for all comments, we were coming from Germany with this truck and would like to ship to South Africa, Durban. We will try shipping outbound Port Klang as well. Any towing information into Singapore would be helpful, too, since AA S does not reply.
