As blue cat says, because zone2 allows for social runs with club members, this is what social running about, have to do tiktok after the run sessions. 😅

Zone 2 HR feels like a fast walk or stair climb kind of pace to me. Seems a bit low for running. Or maybe my heart not so fit, even a fast walk will go into Zone 2 liao [laugh]

Looking at how people are running, seems like most are beyond Zone 2 still, with the effort needed.

For Fast walk, i will be somewhere btw 100 and 105bpm.

My zone 2 is really low like 138 - 143bpm.

I use threshold heart rate rather than maximum heart rate to set my zone.

Assuming I have 2 guys of the same age, one guy runs a 8:30 min  2.4km mostly in zone 5 (data from polar watch), the other guy runs a 9:40 min 2.4km mostly in zone 4 (data from polar watch).

Can I say the zone 5 guy is the fitter of the 2, but he is max out already?

If  the other guy is push hard enough into zone 5, there might be a chance of him breaking 9 min?

Running a full 2.4 km in zone 5 sound scary to me, but these are very fit young men, so I am assuming their max HR could be higher than what was calibrated in their polar watches, which in reality they might be running in a lower zone.

I want to know if the zone 4 guy can be push harder to break 9 min.  [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

nothing wrong with both. I prefer zone 2 cos I don't like to run.

When I'm not motivated, I usually just jog slowly on zone 2 and read my web novel. Whether on PCN or on treadmill.

Personally, I don't really care about zone 2 running and think it's over hyped for casual runner.

We don't invest enough duration to benefit from zone 2 running. Only elites who train more than 10 hours and some 20 hours a week, and their zone 2 running had the specificity their racing benefits a lot.

For us, just run and as long doesn't break down from burn out can liao. Most of us will likely be in zone 3, but I think it is better for us, who commit shorter duration a week for running.

But to the 'zone 4' guy, got to ask is this an all out for him? If it is, he has crossed zone 5 liao, and his watch is not accurate.

That is his vVO2max, the velocity of his VO2max, which typically is around the pace one can sustain for 10 to 12mins, and that is at the very high zone 5.

Z2 is just easy to recommend and execute. So is like fishball noodle soup, everyone (young/old/got teeth/no teeth/bui bui/skin and bones) all can eat type [laugh]
